Pedalworx new more aggressive drive is acomin'! Its compressed and smoother tones make it seem easier to rip on than the Neo. Still has a bite though. It's a mean lil piggy! Muted chord play is killer with this flying angel pig pedal.

Loud as heck too ....it reaches bypass volume set at about 9 oclock!! Like the McBoost! Neo Drive gets there at around the 10-11 o'clock setting.

Aint she a beaut!

SWEET!! I can't wait until it arrives in the "Newbie" Tourbox. Sounds like a nice partner to the Neo.

Cool. I have been thinking about trying to get a little more Roy Buchanan in my sound and this might be the ticket. Neo comes close though. I like the box graphics and the blue chicken knob.

After playing on it more! I must say .....it's more than a beefed up and compressed Neo. There is something else in there. Bob likes the BBOD and I'm feeling like he was influenced by it a bit in getting a certain sound factor in there. Whoa! Is that what I heard?! Mabe not! I like it though!!!!!!!

The BJFE blue pedal "flange riff" , jumps off with the Dirty Angel!! OMG!!!! I just ran in there and played it!! Bob McBroom....... I've been sayin' you have the Magic!!! And you proved it here again!

Yeah, I can't wait to hear this. I haven't even heard the Neo yet, so I'm real excited about this newbie tourbox...

Tasty (or Bob) -- does the Dirty Angel clean up as well as the Neo Drive?

Hi beckanon, It does clean up very nicely . Never get's totally "clean", but has a very usable dirty pig kinda clean. (slight dirt) Great sound thru the strings with guitar volume set as low as you can go. Good eq I guess you'd say. I'll need to compare it with Neo to say for sure....but after a couple days with it........I like the DA thru guitar volume settings alot more than Neo. Mabe I'm saying that because it seems easier and sound great, with it's more complex gain sound. I do like Neo's rawness....that's what make it so unique too.
After playing the raw Neo , I feel spoiled with the Dirty Angel.

Oh! I'm looking to replace my Distortion Pro. I've tried my Burn Unit, Mosferatu and Neo but didn't quite fit. The Neo is nice but gets aggressive too late. The Mosferatu is ok, but sounds much better way above unity gain. Sounds great after the RC Boost though.
The Burn Unit is sort of like the Mosferatu but isn't quite aggressive enough...even on the marshall setting. Not quite "sticky" enough in the way it feels.

How's the Dirty Angel's voicing?

email sent bob.

By voicing I mean how the pedal is EQed.

A tubescreamer will roll off some bass, have a tight midrange with a strong emphasis on the upper midrange, and thus a "singing" quality to it.

The voicing of a Klon for instance will be a bit different, rolling off a bit less bass frequencies, a tight mirange with an emphasis on the lower midrange, having a more "vocal" quality.

A BBOD will keep the existing structure of your basic tone more faithfully than those 2 above, and will thicken the entire midrange, instead of emphasizing a certain spot in the mids. And the fact that it really retains the original bass and treble frequencies, the midrange will be less evident and thus have EVEN less of a singing quality to it.
For this reason, I like pushing the BBOD with a tubescreamer.

That's why perhaps some people complain about it "not cutting through the mix" enough, especially when comparing it to a tubescreamer.

Anyway, that's what I meant by "voicing".

Thanks man! Tone Description 101~~~ Instructor = Hendrix2430. I'm but a simple musician, and could really use pedal review advice from you!

I don't think I can't pick apart three different midranges! OR are there only two...upper and lower mids? I can hear differences but can't place them like that yet.

This DA has a bit of a bite added to the base tone. That would be some range of highs it would seem? And it must have sometype of the mid emphasis, because it does sing.

I'd be better off sending it to you for review!!!!! Wink

Thanks for the info. For some reason, I remember Bob telling me it would be pretty aggressive sounding, moreso than the Neo Drive.

If it's like the Neo in the upper registers, then it may be too bright for me.

Yes, she is! Hey, Tasty; would you mind if I used this picture as the base for the new DA icon/graphic I'm creating on the PedalworX web site? It's honestly the best picture I have access to at the moment... Big Grin
