I've been using a DL4 for about two years and rehearsed, gigged and recorded with it. I got it because I wanted something less cumbersome than my Roland RE501 Chorus Echo (the real McCoy), and I was interested in the reverse mode for psyched-up 60's stuff.
I like this one a lot. I've been able to preset three very usable sounds (simple echo, multihead tape-echo soundscape, and reverse) which I use throughout the set. However I only use four of the fifteen models and really dislike all the others but you can't like 'em all, right? Also it has true bypass and you can at any time taptempo the presets so it's very usable. Loopsampling is not my cup of tea but it can be done and some will love it. I do like to reverse loops but I wasn't able to fit it into my songs yet.
As with all the "virtual-modeling etc.."-stuff, If you don't expect miracles this is great stuff, If you're looking for vintage gear then don't bother with this 'cause it will never ever outcharm the originals.
I have been demoing a Line 6 DL4 and think this is a great pedal. Like most modeling hardware that is out there, I like many use about 2-4 settings. The overal sound is very good. It isn't very warm sounding as the SIB Echodrive or HK Replex and doesn't do the old tape delay as well either, however it does cut through a mix very well and cost $150.00 less then these other two, and is stereo which is cool. I would recomend this pedal to anyone. Yes there are "Purest" delay fans out their that will only use the best of the best. However I have found this to be a great pedal for the money. Though I love the warmth and nice delay rolloff of the Echodrive and Replex at $400.00 I had to send them back.
