I got mine from Musictoyz.com (I really love the site by the way!). This pedal is exactly what I was looking for; Smooth, warm overdrive with good note articulation. I love picking chords, so that is important to me. I particularly love the clean boost knob, which mixes in an uncompressed clean signal into the overdrive. However, if you take the clean boost knob much past the 12 oclock position the overdrive gets squashed by the clean signal, so you have to be care. Actually you get two pedals in one; a great warm overdrive and a clean boost,...or both, so maybe it's three. Anyway, it sounds great with my Fender Telesonic, and I can't wait to use it with my Strats (Big Apple, and California w/SD Custom Custom bridge humbuckers in both). I have a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb head, so I wanted a warmer overdrive tone to compliment the "over-the-top" high gain tones that are built into the Tremoverb, and now I have it. It seems to be built fairly solid; aluminum casing, heavey duty metal switch and input/output jacks. And it looks pretty cool (if that's important to you). I like that fact that it has true bypass switching, which eliminates tone loss when the unit is not being used. This is a great pedal for anyone looking for a no-frills type overdrive sound. And with the added clean boost feature (and reasonable price), it really is hard to beat. I will be creating some space on my pedal board very soon.

Sparkle Drive: Great unit that is so useful in many contexts with tons of gear. Lots of tonal range. The ability to have less bass loss than most, a very open midrange, a layered dirty/clean sound, plenty of output, etc. is very important. Great "must have" pedal. Awesome bargain at $98 new!!

I have an Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive which I like alot, but I played a friend of mine's last week which sounded heads and sholders above mine! He had it modified by Robert Keeley, the guy who makes those compressors. I am going to send mine in.

Here's the scoop from the man himself:

"Our Sparkle Drive mods affect only the drive side of the pedal. The blend control will still function in the same way offering you the most flexibility. But you will able to get an even cleaner sound because we modify the range of the drive circuit in two ways. We also add the ability to get more drive, almost 2 times the amount of drive. You will have an expanded range of drive possible now! We add a diode to simulate tube-type distortion so the pedal sounds a little more natural. We increase the bass response so it is not cut off when you engage the pedal by adding some nice metal film caps. Lastly the led is changed to a cool BLUE LED! We use metal film resistors just like Voodoo Labs so the quality is the same or higher."

Keeley modded my Sparkle Drive and it's WONDERFUL. You really have a lot of tones to choose from and this is coming from a guy who liked his Sparkle Drive right out of the box. Keeley made this pedal come alive. He takes the "fizz" out of the OD and makes it breathe. It definitely sounds more natural.

My advice? Get a Sparkle Drive and then mail it to Robert. Wait about 3 days, then plug in and enjoy!
