I have owned and gigged with a lot of dual overdrive/distortions and bought the G2D Classic a few months ago, but didn't have a chance to gig with it until a couple weeks ago. Since then, I have gigged with it 4 times and rehearsed with it 4 times.
Using a PRS McCarty with WCR Darkburst pickups and a Dr. Z Maz Jr. set up to approximate a clean, Fendery sound, the Classic really sounds Classic Rock - Marshally. I had it on my pedalboard and didn't tell my bandmates I had started using it, but they noticed how great it sounds and commented how it sounded perfect for the music we play, Southern Rock. Lots o' Skynyrd, ZZ Top etc. I keep the gain all the way up and get a good, moderate cruch for the Skynyrd/Allman Bros. sounds and kick in the boost for a lot of ZZ Top and more modern hard rock. It handles Lit's "My Own Worst Enemy" and Collective Soul's "Gel" very well. I think if I had hotter pickups in the guitar it would do hard rock even better. I know I have raved about other pedals here before, but I did some serious A/B/C/D/E and F'ing with all of them before adding this pedal to my board and the Classic has the right amount of compression and sponginess without getting mushy, plenty of tight lows and adjustable mids. The note to note separation is fantastic, even with the boost on. Having the gain max'd is just right for me. I wouldn't want or need any more gain. Kicking in the boost does not blast the volume either. it works very well for just adding more distortion while playing with the group. It would be nice if there were a separate volume for the boost for recording or home practice use, but again for me gigging and rehearsing with the band, it works extremely well. |
