Vintage Rat

Great pedal that really captures the Marshall vibe, IMO, with a cranked up amp. Really creamy with great cut for live work. Sounds great with the drive high or low. Nice and tight bottom end and a great midrange. The upper mids give it that Marshall presence and cut. A "must-have".

Not bad. Sounds best at lower to mid drive settings, and the Vintage Rat shines more in this area to me. At higher settings it mushes out too much for me. When you turn down the filter to compensate for lack of definition it gets too harsh and squealy. This pedal has the squeal-factor anyway, so I just like the Vintage Rat better.

Rat 2 - I have an old non-LED model. I agree with Telepicker that high distortion settings and turning the Filter knob counter-clockwise create some not so great sounds. I leave the Dist. knob at about 9:30 o' clock and Filter at 2:45 or 3 o' clock. I like it as lead boost. Just as an all around distortion it takes away too much low end, so I flip it on for leads.

You should hear this pedal after the Keeley mods...I have the two mode mod. and it has a tubescreamer-like mode and the normal Rat mode...all with increased bass response...clarity and harmonic content...the pedal now reacts to pickup changes and volumn pot reduction like never before...highly recommended!!
