Experience
Pretty nice pedal. I loved the rounded transient attack on it. WOrked great for singing melody lines. A little chubby in the bass, though. Has the ability to get angry sounding to an extent, too, like a Muff. The ocatve-up was pretty cool, but needed the neck pup and higher registers to be really effective. Didn't dig the backwards tape effect, or 'swell', too much. Cool pedal with some real vibe to it. |

Cool chaotic pedal. It's a great effect for strange, fizzy leads. Sorta like a Boss Slow Gear mixed with a fuzz pedal.

I love the Experience; the 3 footswitches make it pretty versatile (straight fuzz -- octavia -- swell). I got mine used (no manual), and it took me a while to get the swell to work the way I wanted (and the way it sounds on those Charlie Sexton tracks). If anybody else is in the same boat, here's some "swell" tips:
The most important thing is to keep the Tone control down as low as you can -- like 9:00 or lower. This will make the volume swell dramatically deper. Sustain I usually have around 12:00, but you can vary that to taste. Use the Swell control to set the final volume of the swell. Oh, and use a strat neck pickup ![]() |

i have owned 3 PE pedals-the Face Lift,Yardbox and the RX(still have this one)...my FL was pretty splatty and didn't have enough volume, but the octave side was nice on it. the Yardbox and the RX both had switch problems pretty much straight away, but they are both good sounding depending on the amp(the RX also works pretty well as a bass OD)... saw a guy at a club using one of the vibe units they make and it sounded great.

I had an Experience and it just didn't do it for me. Far too buzzy. I can see an application for the sound, but it was too harsh for my life use. Also, I could never get the backwards effect they have on their site

I really like this clean boost...I get my amp nice and dirty and simply use the volume on my guitar for clean sounds (with the right amp, guitar and pickups this can work amazingly)...I use the Germ when I want an extra boost for leads (which I rarely do) or when I want a more saturated sound. This works great because it really hits the front end of your amp hard and pushes your tubes so it you're getting tube distortion. I like that the Germ has two different levels of boost giving me further control over my tone and I think my tone is about as good as anybody's I've ever heard for the type of sound I'm after.

Well, when looking for fuzz, which I do less frequently lately, the Vox/ Colorsound Tonebender is a good benchmark tone for me. This pedal nails the tone pretty well, but I'd have to recommend playing one before you buy. Mine had some funny things going on electronically. It created some unwanted sub-harmonics, similar to an amp that needs a little tuning. Could have been my test rig: G & L Legacy through a tweed Deluxe, but I'd still play one first. |

Man, I hated the pedal. Very buzzy and one dimentional. The swell thing was different, but it didn't provide the Zvex like quality with the bizarre. I'll never forget stepping on it, with the band, for the first time.Talk about some shaking heads. I sold it soon after. There may be a place for it if you already have a quality distortion/fuzz- noise maker going, but if you're relying on this one to be a major player in your board, in my opinion, it's way not there!
