I posted these reviews elsewhere and someone suggested I post them here so here goes...

Well hmmm....

I had already stated that the best chorus I had ever played was the DLS Ultra-Chorus (http://www.dlseffects.com/ultra_chorus.htm) but I just tried another chorus which is equally good though not quite as versatile.

A friend lent me the DLS Chorus-Vib
(http://www.dlseffects.com/chorus_vib.htm). In short, it's amazing. Gorgeous Eric Johnson tones, airy Holdsworthian sounds and even 80s Frank Gambale and classic rock tones. Plus, it's got a really cool vibrato that sounds almost
univibish with it's throaty, throbby pulses....Like the ultra-chorus, it has a blend control which basically allows you to run your regular guitar sound in parallel, varying amount of wet signal that is mixed in with your guitar
sound. It's stereo and true bypass also. The true bypass works in stereo also, unlike many of the boutique chorus units like the fulltone which only works mono in true bypass mode. (However, the fulltone's buffered bypass
happens to be very good...) It also sounds great in mono or stereo. (Some of the expensive chorus pedals sounds great in stereo but dark and muddy in mono)

Anyway, for those familiar with the Ultra-Chorus, this unit is much smaller and lighter as such, is much easier to take along to gigs.

This unit is under $200 from musictoyz.com. I have tried the fulltone, analogman, TC SCF, Maxon CS-505, Boss CE-1,2,3,5 & 20, yada-yada-yada. The only one of these choruses that compare to the Chorus-Vib is the original
CE-1. My buddy has one with the preamp disconnected and modified for true bypass. It sounds really great though it's a bit gritty sounding.

Anyway, the DLS Chorus-Vib is a winner. I'm not sure how long I'm going to be able to keep this chorus before having to send it back but I'll hopefully do a more exhaustive review later.

Oh yeah, one other thing...The clips on the DLS site seem to display more pitch bend than the clips on the Ultra-Chorus. In fact, this was the reason I opted for the ultra chorus instead of the chorus-vib. It turns out the clips must have been using the longer delay settings because you can get almost any chorus sound you'd ever need out of this unit...

Jaz,

I just recently test drove the Maxon 9 Chorus and the EBS Uni Chorus. I liked some properties in each of them, but couldn't muster up the rationale to pay $235 for something with which I wouldn't be happy. I have heard the DLS Chorus-Vibe on-line and it sounds good. Second Aerosmith fiddle, Brad Whitford, stands by it, but in person, from a user, is it really the versatile shite that can compete with the high dollar big-big boy stuff? Or is it a Danelectro Chorus in disquise? Let me know, 'cause I'm willing to shell out some money on a hunch. Be blunt.

Easy,

MEH

HIGHLY recommended! i spent a decent amount of time researching chorus pedals, to replace my tc elect's chorus, which had given up the ghost (and they're STILL over $300!), so i thought a bit of research wouldn't have gone astray. i chose this over the chorus clone, mainly because it does other things besides analog fatness. it can also do transparent! basically, it does a t.c. WITH body! and a pretty decent leslie. the other great thing about it is it's not a tone sucker. what you put in is what comes out. and it remains in stereo when it's off! it's a gorgeous sounding chorus; very lush!
i put up a coupla mp3's i did here:

check 'em out for yourself.

Thanks, Muddy for the insight. I think I'm going to give it a try.
