MJM Blues Devil without LED

True bypass, level-drive-tone knobs, great build quality, great parts, and awesome tone.

I love this thing, and it shines in several situations. Use it as a clean type boost like so many blues, rock, and country players do by cranking the level keeping the drive very low, and tone to taste. Or you can get several shades of OD from this unit using it in a conventional manner. It has more gain than a TS-808, but has the sonic stamp of that unit. (to me) I've AB'ed them.

Here's where I disagree with some people on this unit...yes, it has a mid hump and does lose some bass on some settings. Some settings will make you lose tons of bass. (just like a TS) However, it's so flexible that you can set it to retain most of the bass of your signal while boosting some mids. (fat sound) It's not a strict "lose your bass-bump the mids" scenario. Tweak it, folks!! It can go from pretty dark to pretty harsh...that's the beauty. It accomodates different guitars/amps/styles. Too many people think the pedal should be tailored for their style and nothing else. How would these guys ever sell and market pedals that way!? [Big Grin]

This thing delivers for blues, rock and country. I've even used it to simulate a broken up tube amp for jazz stuff when I can't crank up the amp and it works well. Once you get to the gig, and stand back away from everything, you'll realize the beauty of this unit. (along with many others, too) Not the best for bedroom playing, but most good units aren't! Throw out 'wisdom' and listen in the context of which you're playing and you may be surprised.

Anyway, from blistering blues bends to rock rhythms to fingerpicked modern country solos it delivers very well. I love it....and Troy does, too. [Smile]

Sounds awesome- three germanium transistors provide raw fuzz- nails the old Jimmy Page sound dead on.
Absolutely a killer fuzz pedal, a soon-to-be collectors item also. Mine is number #50 and was bought a couple months ago. In the right hands with the neck pick-up of a Gibson les paul Standard it can be a very dangerous weapon. This is an old school hard rock pedal- heavy blues, not for country or jazz or metal, just blues/rock- suits me perfectly. People who dig the tubescreamer thing usually hate these heavy fuzzes but I like both types of sounds.

DITTO - I got a TS808 and one of these babies on my board now. Gotta cover the spectrum, right? Sounds fantastic! I got #34 [Razz] !!!!
