Hey all
I am new here. The site looks great...the gear looks better! My question is for those active in the music scene here in maine...I figure since the store is in Maine some of you cats might be lingering here. Where should I go as a young musician to see open jams...partake in open jams....see live music. I'm over 18 not 21 and currently in music school in Boston...but I will be spending alot of time here more so than ther...but still sheading a ton, next semester!!! To me this is where I want to live so why not get my head in the scene now. Oh I study jazz; but haven't for to long...I know some tunes can play some stuff that is congruent...I mostly listen to jazz guys Frisell..Kurt...Shepik. But I am open to almost all stuff. I will say that the one thing I don't really care to jam in is classic rock... I am not being pretentious...but at Chicky's that is all I saw. So far I know the Bridgeway in South Portland and Chicky's in Westbrook. How hard is it to hustle gigs and players in Maine and how much do they often pay? Thanks! |

You should check out Acoustic Coffee on Danforth Street. It's an originals only venue but I know they have a jazz Saturday line up. It's a great listening room. Also there is the Blue Note on Congress street, another small venue but great. You can join the Maine Songwriters Association and network.
Here are the links: www.portcityblue.com www.acousticcoffee.net www.mesongwriters.com Other than those above places there aren't many places for someone under 21. You can check maine.craigslist.org for musicians looking to jam or form a band. |
