I had a pair and they were pretty cool. Cleaner and more snap than a humbucker. However, mine were the uneven coil versions and were only 2/3 humbucking. I understand you can achieve the same effect by adjusting the pole pieces, and that's how he does them now.

TD has one in one of his guitars I believe and used it for a longer time than I did.

Thanks John...I'm looking long and hard at these so any info helps as I won't be able to try before I buy...I'm mainly a single coil player so a little noise is ok...

Nice guitar - looks like the d'aquisto.

The only other single coil like humbucker I know is the humbucker from hell from Dimarzio which was actually quite nice.

I only had these for a short while and remember them being nice and clear in the highend. Try this - take the screws outta your pickups now or raise them about a 1/4 outta the pickup then sink the whole thing so that they are the same height as they used to be (now the slug poles are 1/4" lower than they used to be). This will give you a little idea as to what unbuckers will sound like.

Thanks John...the guitar plays nice and is beautifully made...the P-94's are a step in the right direction but I'm not sure if they're it...somehow the Unbuckers intrigue me but some describe the tone as thin and bright...which can be a good thing or not...I think I'll ending up snagging em if they're still there...

While I'm not very definitive on them, thin is NOT a term I would use. More like a nice snappy humbucker.

Nice and snappy would be great...lets hope they are not too bright with my setup...I think I'll sleep on it and follow my hunch in the morning...that is if they are still there..!!

thanks for your help...!!

The Unbucker is cool but it seems to be best in a S/S/H guitar where you want something that is more balanced to the single coils - both in tone and in output. The Unbucker is great for that and has the added bonus of being able to be tapped for a true single coil sound too.

Harmonic Design offers a single coil pickup that is the same size and dimensions as a traditional humbucker. I almost went with one of those instead of the Unbucker, but I thought I might want the humbucker tones from the Unbucker too. as it turned out, I rarely used it that way and it stayed tapped most of the time. It's kind of bright sounding for a humbucker.

Thanks TD...not the ringing endorsement I had hoped for...but bright could be a good thing for me as I play teles and the cut factor is very important... in addition to my Blues band I also play in a horn band with keys and the P-94s work good there and the Fralins in my tele also do the trick...so I'm hoping these will do the trick...
