I'm sure my musical tastes are regarded as, well, eccentric in these circles. It ain't rock n roll and I can't understand a word of the French African patois(although I'm betting a woman has something to do with it). My god, this Wazimbo fellow sings and plays like an ethereal angel. I would KILL for this man's voice. I heard it as part of a soundtrack for a interesting Jack Nicholson murder mystery movie called "The Pledge", and I just about levitated off the couch when I heard it.

You guys should check out Herbie Hanc0ck's guitarist, Lionel Loueke. He's from Benin, Africa but he studied at Berklee. I met him at North Sea Jazz last year, his English pretty much sucked, but his playing.. wow.

I'm glad you guys appreciate some of the wonderful African musicians, and thanks for posting the great clips. Whatever it is that defines musical talent and soul, these guys have it. I think no matter what your musical interests and tastes, you can take something from them, if for nothing than the pure unbridled joy of making music without commercial considerations or rock star angst and posturing.

Thanks for turning us on.
I like some African stuff too. Baobab Orchestra is a good one. They're from the Ivory Coast, where you could hear Cuban music skipping across the waves, so they play some Cuban/African hybrid. Some nice strat tones. Seems like most African guitarists play clean. You never really hear an African guy just getting really metal with it. Probably wouldn't sound so good with those larger band/orchestras.
