I'm just curious, its clear that everyone here is into pedals (great!)... Does this interest also extend to high end amps or does the large pedal collection mean that just average amps are ok.

I'm playing thru a bassman RI and a blues jr and compared to the high end pedals I'm collecting, I feel, well, a little inadequate on the amp side.

Maybe try the "Gearhead" or "Quest for Tone" threads.

I play through a Soldano/Caswell X99 preamp and Soldano SLO-100 head. I've had the SLO for over a decade and I looooove it.

Vox AC 30 Top Boost (Blues)
Vox AC 15 (Blue)
Fender 80's Twin II (P. Rivera;Vintage 30's)
Fender '63 RI Vibroverb (my fave Fender)
Fender '65 RI Deluxe Reverb (2) [Vintage 30]
Fender Pro Jr.
Trace Elliot Vellocette (15 W class A)
Park G15 R CD (practice amp)
Danelectro Honeytone (to check George L's)
Guild Sequoia acoustic amp

Hmmmmm.... I'd like a:
Marshall Plexi, Carr Rambler, Standel, Top Hat, Tone King, Komet, vintage Hiwatt, some Supro's,............................

It's just that amps cost a bunch more than pedals and are a helluva lot harder to hide from the wife.

And besides, stompers come in more colors.

Without being funny it is a pedal forum. It can look a little one-sided though. I spent a year looking for 'my amp'. I use a Vox AC15 ri and run it full or near. My pedals (od and fuzz) take it over the top.

Tone King Comet40A; Laney LC-15

Next up, a bass amp for home/jams(Hartke kickback?)

I'd love to add a Emplexidor and a Mesa Dual Rectifier to really round out my options, but I'll probably be into saving money and getting a motorcycle over the next two years. Amps will also have to fight with my need for a Les Paul. Among other things!

Pedals are definitely cheaper to mess around with than amps!

i know what you mean about amp inadequacy Wink. i've upgraded to a fender vibrolux reverb and a fender two-tone custom shop amp, and i'm pretty happy with this setup. however, i would love to snatch up some dr. z amps - the carmen ghia and z28 in particular. oh, and i wouldn't mind checking out some top hat amps. and i've still got this thing for a 60's fender pro or pro reverb...

The Blues Jr. is a great amp . I've got all kinds of boutique and vintage shit and the BJr gets a lot of play ( jamming , tiny club gigs and a lot of sessions ) .

I currently got a Blockhead-100, a clone of an early '67 Plexi. Just sold the Komet.
Best amp I've demo'd to date, is a Tophat Emplexidor. Want one soon!

bad topic for me:
I currently have:

Demeter Tga2-inverter 100 watt head
Thd 2x10 plexi combo
Mesa Tremoverb 2x12 combo
1970 Fender Twin
1962 Fender Brown Deluxe
Vanous Evolution head
Modded Marshall jt45 RI head
Egnater hi-gain modded Marshall jcm800 2204
1965 Gibson Saturn 2x10 combo

I think that's it for amps..... I also have

Amps are a really bad subject Smile

Amps are great, everytime I change amps - about half my pedals sound wrong and its a great excuse to go pedalhogging again!!! I keep trying to get to ONE amp and have settled on the TRACE Elliot V4- its actually an all tube BASS amp that has 4 12ax7s and 4 KT88s(higher 6550s). I play bass also and got this for blues and rock gigs that needed the warmth of real tubes--- I had had an SVT and it sounded good on guitar too so for nyucks I tried it------oh baby!!! a buddy of mine had a Two Rock and a Komet it sounded Identical to the clean of the Two Rock side by side same cabs-----and now Ive got it to where it sounds great with pedals,,,only dingers are the KT88s are expensive and it blows a fuse every once in a while- other than that its the best so far and its a great bass amp too ='} ... onthe other end is a Line 6 AX2- took the chasis and put it in a head box and had made two 1 12 cabs with an EV12l and a EV SRO---all in Orange tolex-----> overdrives that work well with both are the Morgan Miller Tube dancer- Sparkle drive,ts9808 and black cat OD and Fatbox for germanium and silicon boostfuzz.........

Well I used to have major ampaholism, but I've scaled way back over the past few years. I now have a 94 Matchles DC30, Clark Beaufort, 64 Fender Vibroverb, Traynor YBA-1, and an old beater Silvertone. I've also been through a lot of pedals. Now I have the blue FD2, TS9808, Aqua Puss, Z Vex stuff, Hotcakes (2), and a Teese Wah among other things. I used to have major G.A.S. pains, but I've been a good boy lately. I would really like one of those Trussart guitars though... Uh oh, the GAS is back!

Of course I love amps. And just like women, I prefer them in pairs. Wink

My rigs are,

59 Champ + 70-something Vibro Champ

Hiwatt Custom 20 + 66 Deluxe Reverb

London Power Studio (15w Celestion 2x12) + London Power Special-3D (EV Force 1x15).

Pro Jr, all by itself.

Bravo, Gary.
The only time I ever wanted two women was just before I had the first one.

My favorite "mates":

Vox AC 30 & Roland Jazz Chorus 120

Fender Vibroverb & Deluxe Reverb

Fender Pro Jr. & Trace Elliot Vellocette

ericb, you have too many cool amps for your own good. You should feel guilty. If not, I'll feel guilty for you.

How's the Orange?

I heard a comedian say that he had no desire to disappoint two women simultaneously. As for amps, I have an old master volume Marshall 100 watter, a tweed covered Fender Deluxe, a blackface Fender Princeton, & a blackface Fender Bandmaster that has been modified for high gain.

I just got one of the Allen Class Acts about a month ago.

Everyone keeps calling these a baby plexi, and with the el-34 in it does get close. But I'm loving the low gain (3 gain stages instead of 4 and bypasses the .68mf cap which gives that Marshall tone) the best myself. Makes me think of a Fender but I don't know them well enought to tell which model. Would a tweed champ sound this good with a 12" speaker?

This is the first guitar amp I've had in 10 years and my first tube amp in 20. Needless to say, I'm loving it. I tried to go the SansAmp route which has some nice sounds but it's definetely not the same as an amp. It does sound amazing plugging the PSA-1 into the ClassAct. So much so I'm thinking of getting one of the Tri-AC's for the added Mid EQ.

You guys have quite the collections though, I'm jealous.
