the fender pedal was like a tone control side to side. left gave you more bass, right gave you more treble. up and down was volume.

Seems kinda similar to the old DeArmond volume tone pedal, up and down volume, left bass right treble, first time I heard one was Hank Marvin in the early 60's.

The casing looks similar to a sho-bud pedal steel volume pedal, is there a piece of string instead of a rack and pinion inside to actuate the pots?\\\\\\
No this pedal is optical........no pots:O
