Greetings,

New guy here. I bought a Vox AC15CC a couple of months ago, and I swapped the Wharfdale speaker for a Celestion Gold. I'm looking for an OD and so far the OCD is the winner. The sound clips from Fulltone's site all use Marshalls, and I was wondering if anyone has used this on an AC15, and what the results were.

Also, any other recomendations?

Thanks!

A friend of mine gets a pretty nice tone by running an MXR Dist+ into his AC15CC. I don't know really if that is an amp you need drive pedals with, you could probably just od the pre- and poweramp sections and/or use a (dirty) booster with it.. Try and avoid tube screamers though, at least they don't work well with my AC30CC2

RAT mates well with Vox amps and is relatively cheap....have you looked into the Vox series of pedals?

Welcome to the forum!

I have the 15cc. It's a fun amp. The Barber Direct Drive is my favorite dirt box in front of it. I also use a Hotcake which I still haven't found the perfect use for yet. I thought it would be the perfect low gain box, but I'm really digging it's gritty mid gain stuff a little more. It is a nice contrast to the smoother character of the DD. The amp also takes well to fuzz pedals if that is your thing.

I have an MI Audio Tube Zone on the way that I'm hoping will give me some heavier sounds. That may be here by the weekend. Check back, I usually post a review when I get a new toy.

One thing you should know is that I've gotten the best tones by cooking the front end a little bit. I set the amp dead clean and play fairly aggressive rhythm work. Then I start turning up the Barber Launch Pad until the amp starts to break up. I then back the Launch Pad off to just below the breakup point. I run the master wide open BTW. This process is similar to setting the trim on a mixing console, and it makes the whole amp run more efficiently. The amp sounded a little thin to me, and this fixed that issue.

TS pedals really suck in front of this amp, so stay away from those. I've also heard good things about the Timmy with these amps.

Rockin Dachsund has one as well, and he has tried more dirt boxes than I with it. Maybe he'll chime in.

Get a Hotcake.

EL84s love the Hotcake circuit - end of story, never look back...

I found the Hotcake to be too fizzy on the top end.

My AC15 really likes the King of Tone for Fender-y tones and the Fulldrive MOSFET for serious overdriven tones.

I have a Matchless Lightning clone which I guess is in AC15 ballpark and my Tim sounds great through it.

I second the Hotcake/fizzy comment, though i'm really missing mine anyways. I have heard that at stage volume the fizz is long gone, but i never gigged mine before trading it. Soon to be a new (old) addition.....

I haven't played my AC15 much lately, but i'm kind of interested since two of my main dirt's were listed at the top of this thread. I'm a Distortion + freak (god knows why, don't make me explain it), so i'll have to check that out.

I will report back tomorrow, since most of my current pedals haven't seen any time with that amp. I imagine COT and PA Power Driver are the two i'll love........

cheers

I just got an AC 30 and SUPRISE! MY barber LTD silver kicks ass slamming the front end with just a little bit of gain (maybe around 9 o'clock...)

I also tried an old school DOD 250 preamp yellow one that was really awesome too but it didnt have enough volume on tap for me to get a good boost out of it.

I would highly reccomend either one.

I have heard the hotcake bluesberry mod takes the fizzy out....

Thanks to all of you for the suggestions....some I've thought of and some I hadn't considered.

First the good news: My wife overheard me listening to some soundclips of the OCD and ordered one for my birthday, from this very site right here. I love my wife.

The bad news: It came today but my birthday is Sunday and she's making me wait. Argh!

I'll keep you posted. Again thanks for the help, everyone.

Just because it was mentioned a couple of times here, I thought I'd post my experience here. Several of you mentioned the Hotcake as being fizzy, and I would have agreed with you before this weekend.

I was about to unload the HC due to the fizz. I use it in Bluesberry mode in front of the AC15cc. The key to getting rid of the fizz is the presence knob. I was running it nearly off, and there was too much fizz. I found that as you turn it up, the fizz goes away. I'm now running it about two o'clock and I'm no longer bothered by the fizz.

If you try to turn the presence up into a dead clean amp, you may find it too bright, but if the amp is clipping a little bit it's just about right.

I'll thrid the Hotcake/fizzy high end and add a flatulent bottom end - like throwing a wet sponge against a wall.

So many pedals, so little time...

Can't believe she's making you wait, but it'll be sweeter on Sunday am when you unleash the beast. Happy Birthday.

Thanks, porkchop.

After two days I can tell you I'm sold on the OCD, it was exactly what I was looking for. Still dialing in different sounds and playing with the amp controls....all good.

Can't wait to gig with this pedal.
