I remember a friend whose father and grandfther had passed at age 40. I met him when he was 39. He smoked like a chimney and was an all around nervous kinda guy. I ran into him about ten years later and he told me "I got busy and forgot I was 'supposed' to die."

Well thanks for all the emails too, seems anumber of people are getting caught up on thier checkups and thats a good thing...
talked to my younger sister and she three people she knew who are younger than we are had massive heart atacks recently....

I dont know if its the difference in the diet that our generation was raised on or what but it seems to be happening earlier and earlier ( what happened to everyone living to 120 ?!?!? )

That's what I get for not reading this thread earlier but just as well since I smoke, drink, am overweight, and OLDER, with a job that could give a 20 year old a stroke so this kind of news is depressing

Yeah thats what was scary is Im in pretty good health, and can keep up with the Teenage black belts (most of the time )....
In my case its bad genes (can i get these in cordouroy ??) and diet, and especially the smoking,,,,,,, I think we all hear the Cancer warnings from smoking, but I never understood the heart disease/attack connection, BAM !...... I finally got the message.

... and sorry about the nondescript title - I did the thing I hate, title doesnt reflect the contents..... Donners Heart Attack seemed a little too much at the time...

Sorry to hear the bad news- just got back from vacation to read this thread... well it sounds like you're in good spirits and that's a good sign, it maybe true or not but my personal feeling is that attitude can affect your health as much as any other factor. My family has had heart problems up the wazoo for as long as I can remember so even though I'm only 28 I always have in the back of my mind that I need to keep an eye on my habits. Also just over my lifetime I've seen vast advances in medicine and technology for dealing with this stuff so even though it's scary to go through it there's a much better prognosis than there used to be...

Anyway, best wishes for a speedy recovery, and in the meantime you'll be able to post here even more!

I am a little late on this one as I was out of town all weekend. I Hope and pray all continues to go well for you. I am 44 myself and I eat out way too much. I think you could easily turn this around to something positive (easy for me to say). Look at the way most people want to diet for 2 weeks until the old suit fits again, and then go right back to what they were doing before. What most of us need is a complete (and permanent) change in lifestyle. But changing your whole life around isn't easy without lots of motivation. Just a shot in the dark, but I bet you have scads of motivation right now. Get well soon and God bless.

Well as an update...

I went to the doctor last week and he removed the activity restrictions and Ive been back to Tae Kwon Do class already and will be going back to work half days on wednesday for a week and then fulltime Oct. 1st... wont know for sure if there was damage for a few months, but so far so good......

Good news Donner!

My wife was having chest pains last week and ended up in the hospital thinking she was having a heart attack. They did the cath thing on her and she was clear but something is causing some type of angina so we are checking into the medication she takes to see if that's causing the problem. Very scary couple of weeks.

Glad to hear you are getting back into things again. Wishing you only the best.

My dad had a stent put in yesterday. He's been having heart attacks since 1975, and it hasn't slowed him down. I keep telling him that he'd save an awful lot of trips to the hospital if he'd stop smoking two packs a day and eating a gallon of ice cream before bed every night, but his philosophy is that if a heart attack a year for 30 years--not to mention 10 bypass surgeries--hasn't killed him, then nothing will.

I was in the 11th grade, eating lunch in the kitchen when my dad had his first one. He came in with a suitcase packed and said, calm as can be, "Dave, are you doing anything this afternoon? Would you mind drivin' me down to the hospital? I'm havin' a coronary."

He's a doctor (believe it or not), so he knew the signs--that's why he'd packed a bag.

Anyway, sorry about the long story; I just wanted to reassure you that everybody who has a heart attack doesn't die young (BTW, my dad is 80 now).

But just in case you do die, would you mind emailing me your address? You've got some gear that I'm sure your family wouldn't want to keep...
