This may seem obvious but I don't want to make any mistakes.... if I want to try a different chip in a pedal with a socket, is there anything I need to know about handling everything?

well it has to be the right type...

but the most important thing is to put it in the same way as the other one,,,

You will see usually a little round shiny spot on each chip, make sure its in the same place...

and that all 8 legs go IN the hole...

Chips are pretty durable as far as static goes. Just to be sure touch something metal before you handle the chip. You also will most likely have to bend in the legs of the chip a slight amount to get them to fit into a socket.

there is kind of a trick I do and Im sure others do to, you lay the four on one side in there holes- then with a straightedge you can push the other four in line and sink them all at the same time...... this is more for the first time as they are usually spread farther than the socket holes...they bend in closer after they have been in......

also if you dont have a chip puller they are like 2 bucks at radio shack and worth it...

Yeah that will work - its a little tight next to the chip , and his sockets have the individual holes rather than the trough slots....let us know what you find....
