We just got the first batch of Freak Show pedals, this young guy came into our shop told us he was making pedals blah blah blah. I get tons of emails and calls like this a month etc. and usually don't have time. But he kept emailing, coming in, and he was really into so what they heck....
Anyway he comes back with two very cool pedals, the digilog delay and brown rabbitt...I must say they sound great...the delay is very warm, and if you like rats this thing kicks ass... The builder Justin Patry has alot of passion and energy and is local so I wanted to give a small plug I usually am to busy for this stuff...but I would really like to see him get going. The pedals are antiqued kinda paint job...they look well freaky http://www.musictoyz.com/guitar/pedals/freak.php |

teddy you've got a typo on the product page - looks like you cut/pasted the features from the delay onto the brown rabbit.
But they look like cool pedals! ==================== I've heard guys that would make a dumble sound like a peavey backstage... Let's talk about tone, and not this other stuff. - Paul Cochrane |

so what kind of the Digilog Delay is?
Analog or Digital? ^_^ |

Celebrity![]() |
Its a digital delay made to have the charteristics of a analog delay...it does the chemical brother regeneration thing only analog delays do till now....

First off.... A huge THANK YOU goes out to Teddy at musictoyz.com....without him any of this little venture would not be possible for me!
An official website is in the works for Freakshow Effects so stay tuned...It WILL contain detailed information about the people behind the pedals, pedal options, pedal artwork(each pedal is slightly "unique"), and hopefully some small video clips of the pedals in use. To address the question about the digilog delay it IS technically digital but has a high freq. filter that rolls off the highs on each subsequent repeat just like an analog delay does. The delay is also capable of the same exact self oscillation/ weird outer-space noises that are unique to analog delays. I also have a second footswitch on the pedals to activate the self oscillation via a stompswitch while your still playing the guitar! Plus this switch can also be used as a sort of "sustain" if you set it up correctly. As teddy said the pedal sounds VERY warm and is in my opinion as close as you can get to an analog delay without using some sort of modeler pedal....trust me it's much more fun having the "hands on" approach as compared to using an effect that was developed out in cyber-space! ....the last thing I can say is if anything, try them because the price is right...I'm very sure you will not be dissappointed. Thanks all! Digilog Delay---Brown Rabbit---Maharishi---"9" |

maharishi is a dual purpoes pedal. It's a really good octave up effect (like an octavia) without the fuzz that an octavia has. You use it in front of your amp and use your amps gain as the actual fuzz/distorion. It has a really pronounced effect from the 12th fret up of course ala octavia type effects. It also has a really great sitar effect if used correctly with your amps clean channel. (hence the name maharishi). I have even gotten some strange ring mod. noise sounds as well as a similar sound to the z-vex machine when coupled with very high gain distortion from it. I really will have to make a small video to try and show some of the many things the pedal does. It really was a surprise to me when I let some people try the prototype thinking "yeah it does the octavia thing" then hearing all these really great usable sounds people found in it. Then I heard a few people say "make me one" and here I am today! The octave-up and sitar sounds though are really great sounding in my opinion. I have not produced the first batch of these for musictoyz yet...I think he will have them in 2 weeks or so hopefully! I'm busy as we speak making them....

The Brown Rabbit reminds me of those 'Golden Books' I had when I was a kid. I did it for sure. I've been thinking about a Rat-style pedal and I have a B-day coming up soon

it's funny you say that! thats what I thought when I first saw the artwork too! The other funny thing is that patrick is a local artist here that actually paints for the portland childrens museum etc... He hand paints the pedal, coats it in shelac which gives it the "antique" look, and uses a strange looking thing to shelac them kinda makes it look like it is an old oil painting. This gives it a sort of brush stroke on canvas effect typical to real paintings. It should also be noted that all the pedals are unique in that they differ sligtly in artwork from eachother. All the rabits have the rabbit on them but all have slight differences (one has a hat on like the one in the picture) Also all the delays are different as well...some have genies on them, some have wooden "logs" where it says digilog. Rest assured when you buy a freakshow pedal you are getting a real one of a kind handpainted piece of art with a great sounding, usable effect inside it.

Hello,
These are the best-looking pedals I've ever seen, bar none. I've never been tempted to buy a stompbox on LOOKS alone, but these might just change my mind... Hrm. Heating bill or Digilog, heating bill or Digilog... Decisions decisions... Keep up the great work! |

Hello,
Dammit. Looks like I'll have to search under the couch cushions. Gotta pay the heating bill somehow... Teddy, would it be possible for me to get the Digilog pictured on this site (the one with the tower and flags)? I just placed my order. Thanks! I'm thinking this should help to get my steel guitar even more into Eno/Lanois territory... ...and that is a wonderful thing - a wonderful thing, indeed. |

+1 on the attractiveness of the art. How does the rabbit differ from, say, a Keeley Rat or BYOC? I've never really used a Rat and I'm kind of looking around at old Rats, a Keeley Rat, BYOC, and now your pedal.

The Brown Rabbit is pretty versatile. The key is in the 3 way select switch...stock the pedals come with (1)asymetrical clipping(typical in high end boutique pedals such as tube screamer derivatives), (2)pure op-amp (very loud tubish sound), or (3)L.E.D. which is very thick and loud (plus the led's glow depending on how hard you play...very cool). It should also be noted that I AM doing custom mods on them as well on occasion (germanium, symetrical, MOSFET, as well as the infamous "Q" knob) Teddy has one with a super vintage metal can op-amp (NOS)in it in stock right now (or did). The custom rabbits are also named/painted "frosted brown rabbit" and have the appearance of pink frosting along the periphery of the pedal. Patrick, the artist, came up with this concept. I described a little bit what each diode config. is on the pedal but you REALLY need to hear one and play it to decide for yourself how it sounds. I have had a really great response on them thus far and everyone has said it is similar to a vintage (real) rat but the clipping options totally make it it's own thing....hope this helps?

Hello,
Thanks to my close proximity to Musictoyz HQ, my Digilog arrived this afternoon. It's a great little box. My only complaint is that I didn't happen to snag the design featured on the site. Rather, my box features a genie wielding a mean looking scimitar. Pretty cool! What you don't see in the photo on Musictoyz is the level of detail put into the EDGES of Freakshow's effects. I really do feel like I own a wee little piece of art. As for the sound, the unit is dead quiet. Very nice. Repeats feature a very nice analog-like decay. It'd probably be fairly tough for me to tell the Digilog apart from actual analog delays. The controls are very simple and responsive. The "300-600" switch is a nice addition, and makes for a lovely little "noise making" switch. It's fun to switch the unit from a max of 300 ms to 600 ms while the feeback loop is engaged. The aforementioned feedback loop is the unit's main strength. It takes a wee bit of effort to figure out exactly where the dwell, level and feedback controls need to be in order to prevent too loud a loop. So far, I've had pretty great luck with it. I can DEFINITELY see this function helping out in the construction of a few new tunes. The page on Musictoyz doesn't mention it, but the unit is true bypass. I believe the write-up on this site simply says "on/off switch." The only real concern I have with the box is that a nine volt has no way of being secured within the unit. It could bounce around in there and damage some other components. I don't think this is too big of a problem, though - most folks (myself included) will end up powering this thing via an adapter. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase! I can see myself reaching for the Digilog for many an application. I imagine that it will see quite a bit of usage, even after my Echoczar gets delivered. A very nice stompbox! Well done, fellas! |

glad to hear you like it blind joe!
I know what you mean about the battery thing....I did it that way because it is a really good idea to use a power supply with the pedal. A battery was intended just to use as you were trying out the pedal at a shop. This is the same thing BOSS directions will tell you...if you read them!!! haha! I have found that a dying battery will reak havoc with the pedals delay chip. If it is dying you'll know because when you use the oscillate button it will make a screaching noisethat is not pleasant. In the directions I mention this and also caution the user to use a power supply. SOooo that being said...I warned ya! haha! It does sound good though doesn't it! I have been using mine for about 9 months now and love it! I always get people asking me what the heck that pedal is! I'm really glad to hear you like it! I like getting feedback on this stuff too because I want to know if someone has a problem...and fix it for them! There is nothing I hate more than to buy something and get NO TECH SUPPORT for it if something bothers you. Enjoy the Digilog! Digilog Delay---Brown Rabbit---Maharishi---"9" |

So, is the Brown Rabbit competition for the Landgraff Mo'd at a better price break? I've been looking for one of those.
Tone... The final frontier. |
