It's been a while since I shared any recordings with you all so I uploaded a few soundclips from a gig we did last week. It was the first time we played this Pink Floyd Medley we do with 3 songs off the Piper album and I think it came out alright. I liked my guitar tone for most of the night and we got away with playing very LOUD!

Anyways, pardon the poor singing (The sound guy couldn't get us to turn down so he refused to increase the vocals and did not send anything to the monitors Mad) and the so-so audio quality but it was taken from a video camera and it did not pick up the bass and bass drum, only the cymbals and the guitar Smile.

Live recordings of Achilles Last Stand, Beer Drinkers, Just Got Paid and the Pink Floyd thing I mentioned:

Since this is a gear forum:

For the above songs I used my LP Standard through a few of pedals (mostly the OCD for distortion, an old MXR Phase 100 and an Eventide Timefactor)through my Marshal Vintage Modern and a Soldano Hot Rod+ 50, both sharing a Germino 2X12 cab with an Eminence Governor and a Scumback H75.

I'm listening now. Pretty cool! The Floyd tunes sound pretty heavy. Nice!

And I really dig your band's name. Mescaleros!

Beer Drinkers sounds really good. I'll keep listening to you guys while I surf.

Ciao for now........

Thanks Jeff! We had made a huge list of potential band names and driving each other insane trying to find the right name when I glanced at the ZZ Top record of (almost) that name and everybody agreed that was it.

Hey, I'm just sayin', but that was the name of Joe Strummer's band: Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros.

Yeah, I know but our desperate inspiration was the ZZ Top album.

I guess it is okay, we're not really making any money out of it, it's just for fun, we all have day jobs.

Man you guys have balls of steel for covering "Achilles Last Stand"! I've never ever heard anybody cover this tune live... it's a bit like going for "Close to the Edge".

Tim, we love the song and we simplified it as much as possible but it still is a bitch to play live.

The singing is truly embarassing (I am the only one in the band who can remember those long lyrics) and, predictably, there are a lot of mistakes and bum notes but the crowd in the bar seemed to be really into it.

Listening back it makes me cringe but I posted it to Soundclick because I really dug the guitar tone and because, for the most part, the band was locked in tight.

Perhaps next we'll try Tales of Topographic Oceans, all four sides of it? Big Grin

Actually, "Stone Free" would be a GREAT band name! Cool

Probably already taken, though. Roll Eyes
