You think the Klon and Fulltone stuff is huge take a look at Hughes and Kettner. One pedal will take up half your pedal board! Or how about the SIB! Varidrive? Another real estate hog. Kudos to those manufacturers who make good things in small packages.

Oh yeah, in the 70s pedals were sooo tiny
Ever heard of Electro-Harmonix???? Hello? Those things are HUGE! |

I've split my board into two.
And even that's too much. I used to have a DOD Preamp 250 and a MXR Distortion+. Now I use a H&K Tube Factor and a Jekyll & Hyde. There's more, but it's all the same, big. Big (and beautiful). |

Yeah, I have two pedal rigs. One of them is mostly huge stuff like Lovetone, E-H, SIB - covers more real estate than you'd ever believe. The other rig is tiny Maxon, Crowther, and EBS stuff.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Line6 stuff. God forbid you should have two of those puppies on your pedal board.

As my wife is quick to point out, size does matter.
It's kinda give and take though, dont ya think? The Klon is a beast. But it's my main tone shaping tool, the "amp on the floor". It's laid out neatly with plenty of room between the knobs. It's quick and I always know where I'm at. The Fulltone Fat-Boost is MXR sized. But I never know where I'm at with that tiny little input trim pot thingie, except by ear. Vibe units? I'd love one,but with the way my boards are laid out, even with a self contained foot controllable unit like the Deja Vibe 2, I'd have to: a) Remove the wah b) remove other boxes and reposition the power supply c) construct a bigger board and have another road case built. I build my own boards but the road case is a big deal. So no can do, I just use a chorus. (Phase vs. chorus is another argument.) I'd like to say I make all my gear decisions based strictly on tone, but logistics are a big factor. |

same thing with the klon for me, and on the
flip the fat boost, but my micro flange and phase 90 with there rubber rings are pretty foot freindly.I go through the same game when making a new board layout, for example i love vibe but not enough of a purist that it has to be a sweet or "your fav here" unit. i get along real well with a voodoo unit, and get enough questions and complements that it must not suck to bad.and now that a tu-2 pedal tuner is a must thats one place gone. this board is going to have an a/b and bp loop banzi makes those two in one box so that might work( i dare someone to make a bypass loop+a/b switcher in a mxr sized box with 3pole switchs and led's i dare ya booteek guys!)so i guess i'll look at my 12+24 and see whats going away! Hey, this is gonna sound anal but after I got it done, it saved me a lot of time:
I made cardboard cutouts of my pedals INCLUDING George L's jacks and my 5 boards, all out of poster board. I can switch 'em around very quickly without unhooking stuff and all that bothersome stuff. A quick way of checking new layouts. Also made a master list of dimensions for standard boxes such as MXR, Voodoo, Boss, etc. for cutting velcro. Go ahead and have a laugh on me, I can take it! |

don corleone, that's not anal that's what's called intelligent! reason you didn't
recognize it is it's a trait few musicians exhibit!(you spend much time with drummers? |

As little as possible, voodoogreg...
I'll get torched for this one, but... What do you call a guy that hangs out with musicians? A drummer! |

How can you tell if a drummer is at your door?
The knock speeds up! |

Lest we neglect our big bottom brothers....
... the bassist and guitarist werent getting along,so on the next break the guitarist turned a couple of the bassists tuners to hack him off---- when they were getting ready to start the next set, the Singer saw something was wrong and asked--- the bassist blurted out with tears, " he untuned some of my strings--- and he wont tell me which ones" |

This turned out to be a really good topic...
I'm with Corleone in that I always use cardboard cutouts to layout my board. I went through many different layouts (always used soemwhat the same effect order though) I ended up sticking with my fuzzes and od's up front. My wah and volume next to eachother on the right. And finally my row of delays, and phasers in the back on a shelf. I am very pleased when pedals are ergo designed. The Klon is especially great in this regard. Pedals like the Varidrive are horrible. I even have taken to putting small wedges in the back of some of my OD's to improve the angle for fast switching. I think it also increases the life of the switches themselves as they are now more at a 90 degree angle to my foot when I stomp on them. Just sharing some info... Alex |

What do you call a drummer without a girlfriend?
Homeless. (It's quite possible that I read that on this forum. If so, sorry.) |
