Hi Ken,
Yeah, that's the one I've been looking at! I'm down between it or the Sennheiser mic that Stax suggested. Might flip a coin... Smile

BTW Ken,
Since you have changed my life for the better with the "BENNY LAVA" video, I thought I'd share some magic I recently found....

Ummm Both!! Smile I've gigged with the Rivera more, but I think I'm taking the Rocca out on the next go around we play. Just got my Fulton Webb back about a week ago and it just SINGS!

Those bright red, Flamed Maple Head Cabs Roccoforte used to use in their Ads,look really sweet! I'm surprised more amp builders haven't offered them. Maybe I should start making them custom, for people to put their chassis' in! LOL

She's a fox. I'll "mustard her hole". (I might be married but I'm not dead.) I love the line about 'jewish spank it hardly'.

Anyway, back to topic. The Sennheiser mic that Stax mentioned is truly a great thing for a guitar amp.

Willie, how are you mic'ing your amp? Dead center, or slightly off axis midway between the dust cap and the edge? Also, are you right up against the grill with those 57's?

Hey Ken,
Mostly I poop on my knee and then mic the amp...
just kidding, couldn't resist! Razz

With the 57, I normally have it a bit off axis, but I'm willing to try whatever to get the best sound. I'm so use to a d.i. box---decisions, decisions..

Here's what I do with a 57 ...
1/2 way between center and rim "slightly" off axis and back from the grill about 1 or 2 inches. If something sounds really funny through the monitors (or mains) and I know the board EQ is flat, I'll re-position the mic slightly.

Always check where the sound guy (or assistant) places the mic.
Last Saturday I showed up to find a 57 pointed squarely at the center of a Marshall 1960 straight 4-12 cab ... that's a piece of wood.

I also go fro something along the lineof what Klasaine said half way between rim and center and off axis... that is usually my starting point... more highs go closer to the center more bass closer to the rim... less mid get away from the grill... but you'll start getting ambient sounds in also.

Once you find your sweet spot mark it, if you use a mic stand mark its position on the floor, mark your cab/amp position also(maskin tape comes in handy here) If you're using a tripod type of mic stand try aligning the mic in the same direction(parallel) to one of its legs. That way you can repeat it faster in term of angle. If you use a mic stand with a round base... well get dirty and make a one inch wide line on the base as an angle reference for the mic to be at.

Make a jig of how your amp and mic stand are positioned with holes where the amp feet/caster are and 3 points for the micstand legs. If you use a round base mic stand make a mark for teh angle to line up teh previously done mark on yoru mic stand baseWink Could start with a piece of cardboard then reproduce it in any damn material you wish to use that suits you(plastic sheet, plywood, mdf...)

I know this works... seen it done in the past, I think I mentioned it on here once.

If you go with a mic laying down from the top of your amp(some do this with flat face mic like Audio Technica) again it's all about marking your sweet spot and being sure you can repeat it time after time.

I used my AC15 for the first time this past weekend and the sound guy used the e609. He just stuck it in front of the speaker, no fuss. I heard a CD later and it sounded great!

I'm going to get one to carry with me...it's what, $100.00?
