I've got a stock American Std. Strat and the New Pro Tube Concert Reverb. I want to be able to boast it to get a singin lead sound. You know three sounds clean, slighly distorted, ant then over the top for leads. Any suggestions?

You're likely to get loads of other suggestion but if you can try out a Vox Valvetone check it out, it's no longer made but well worth finding.

I'd probably recomend the Visual Sound Jekyll and Hyde. The Jekyll side will get you the low to medium gain stuff, while the Hyde side can take you over the top. A whole lot of pedal for not much $.
The Valve Tone is a nice pedal as well. I like it for crunch rhythm, but it wont get you into the singing lead teritory.
Another really nice pedal I've just found is the Banzai Cold Fusion. It's just one of the most natural sounding pedals I've played through.

The Cold Fusion is simply the best overdrive I've ever played through. It absolutely destroyed my FD2 and my TS-9 RI. It has more gain than one may think and it's incredibly loud (unity volume is at 8:30 to 9:00). Very transparent.
Keep the pedal on and use your guitar volume to control the level.
Of course, you can try the Banzai Fireball, which has a boost feature.

Dave, did you really feel the Cold Fusion had allot of gain? I would say a Tubescreamer has as much if not more, and a FD2 certainly has more.
I will agree that it is super sweet and transparent and really blends well with the guitar/amp to yield a super natural sounding overdrive. Keep looking for my Cold Fusion head to head with the Klon post. It's comming... I have my reasons for delaying... may add in the Red Snapper as well... and the Maxon OD820... and Reverend Drive Train... and Voodoo Labs Sparkle drive... and TS9 RI modded to 808 specs... and Jekyll & Hyde... I'm a sick man!
My Fireball was mailed Tuesday AM from Germany... I wonder how long it will take to get here... :-(

Cool - I'd like to know about the Red Snapper, the Drivetrain, and the Fireball.

Please add the Red Snapper as it sounds like a similar pedal to both the Klon and Cold Fusion -- at least I'm under that impression.

Don't hold your breath waiting for my Fireball review - it's gotta get here (San Diego) from Germany.

Yep, they are similar. It will be interesting to see how they all compare. I'll be using my Les Paul, 535 and strat into my '66 Super Reverb and Marsha ('69 Marshall small box 50).

I'm a Strat player and I own and play Boss SD-1,Ibanez TS-9RI & Fulltone Fulldrive 2. I use the Fulldrive2 most of the time but the TS-9RI is my favorite sounding overdrive !

Baby Blue Overdrive will give you a fat, singing lead tone even with single-coils

I agree. The BBO is amazing with a strat! It adds thickness, sustain, complexity, and is quiet.

A lot of gain? No, just a little more than I may have expected. I've owned a Fulldrive 2 and a Tubescreamer and both had more gain, but I like this pedal better. I'm running the Cold Fusion into an already overdriven tube amp and will roll off the guitar volume to clean up. It adds bite, sustain and character to the sound.
Isn't the Klon more clean boost than overdrive? I've heard it's a good clean boost but its overdrive capabilities are questionable (I've never played so I only can rely on the experience of others).
Good luck with your test. Can't wait to hear the results. Hope the Fireball arrives soon.

The Klon is a little different than a clean boost in that it does more to your tone. It sounds very natural. But whether it sounds like a clean boost or an overdrive depends on your particular guitar and amp characteristics.
Basically, unlike other OD pedals, the Klon has a sweet spot that can be very different depending on the guitar and amp combination. So I'd describe the Klon as an interactive tone shaping device, rather than an overdrive or clean boost pedal. I tweak the Klon between songs, between guitar changes, between pickup selection changes as if it were part of my amp. It's a very different way of using a pedal and some would say it's a fault. And this is why the Klon is often misunderstood and much maligned by people on this forum. But it's a great pedal. It just requires you to be really active about your playing: to use your guitar volume and tone, to use different pickups, and to use the pedal itself.

I have to agree with the Klon being an awesome strat-friendly pedal. I posted a nasty review at harm-cent, but it's really my favorite for strat (my favorite guitar). It IS more of a clean boost with my setup (Twin reverb copy, alnico Weber's), but I love what it does. It covers the boosted to early breakup that I love, and I discovered another little-known gem to push my sound over the top into lead territory; Tube Works 901. With these two, I get very satisfactory sounds, and all the versatility for the music I like. Unfortunately, I play more in a heavy band with my Les Paul, and can't get a heavy enough sound. I'm looking at buying either EMG's or a Boss (yecch!).
