Anyone out there suggest a good speaker to go into a high gain, 120 watt British 2X12 combo? I want to replace the Celestion G12T-75s which I think sound like crap in an open back design; dead and clunky, lacking definition and mids. I want something that really opens up under medium to heavy overdrive, with well defined mids and highs, since my amp is already pretty bass-heavy. I'm thinking of going with Celestion vintage 30s, but am also considering some of the high power designs by Weber (Chicago, Thames). Oh yeah, the speakers should be capable of handling at least 60 watts apiece. Thanks!

I would highly suggest the V30's. Perfect for what you are describing. I can't comment on the specific Weber's that you mentioned, but I have some Alnico blue dogs running with my 50-watt plexi, and they sound phenomeonal.

i use celetion 75 12" in a closed back cab and liked them. For my needs
If I were in your position I'd look into the Eminence speakers... they seem to be great speakers and priced right.

Celestion has samples of all their speakers on their website.

I forgot , but I use a Weber Thames ( 12" - 4 ohm ) in a homemade cab with a 1964 Bassman head . It's only 40 watts but I play it full up for 4 - 6 hrs. at a time . Open back by the way .

The Reverend 1250 is an awesome speaker. 50 watts, and a blend of Jensen and Celestion tones. Geared more toward vintage blues and sweet clean tones, but will distort richly. Not a bright modern high gain tonality like a Celestion V30, but more subtle and dynamic.

I have 2 Weber VST speakers,& am quite pleased. I use a 10" Texas in my Princeton,& a ceramic 12" Blue Dog in my tweed Deluxe. They are both very efficient,as in louder than what I had previously. The tone is much improved as well.

Celestion Vintage 30's are great, so is the G12-80. I think the G12-80 may be a "more balanced" speaker in that it can get more sparkle on clean sounds than the Vintage 30. The guy who owns Austin Speaker Service says the G12-80 is his favorite Celestion along with the G12H-30 reissue. I've got one of each in a 2x12 Jenkins cabinet and it is wonderful for Marshally overdrive as well as clean.
