The Boss should be Neg tip, so the sleeve is the red and the pin is the black.
You may get noise as there is more to a DC jack, you'll need a zener diode to regulate the current to 9v and a resistor of some sort. I tried once myself and failed miserably. I sent my stuff out to Rack Systems in CA to have them installed. If you are feeling brave, check out www.j.philpott.com and email him. It looks pretty simple, but I couldn't get it to work. |

I would recommend getting a multi-meter to check which wire is hot and which is ground. I performed the same "operation" on my cousin's board a while back and don't remember colored wires, etc.
Regarding your attachment method. I drill holes in the board on either side of the pedal and use plastic zip ties to secure the pedals to the board. I find it much sturdier than velcro. |

Speaking of building pedalboard...
I attach my pedals drilling holes in the board and running screws from underneath the board, my board as a flooting floor so it keeps screws under and cables I mounted this in a "vintage" suitcase using the cover as the floor board, and using the top part as the cover, simply replace the hardware with the same locks that are on some guuitar cases. Looks neat a d is ready to carry. All I need to work on for now is teh powering of all this, for now I'm using batteries, but I'm still on the hunt for the easy home build without noise solution. I'll take a look at the link mentioned above in another post. Thanks for posting it, it will surely help others. My 2 Cents |

Thank you guys for helping me out. As far as noise goes, I tried the whole stuff (without the Cry Baby, but with a TS9 instead) and didn't get any more than "normal". Maybe it's because I don't use that many pedals (TU2, OC2 Octaver, Cry Baby, Fulldrive). I use an Ibaney 9V-WallWart. They cost half the price of the Boss, and are the same.
Thanks again! |

John M was right as far as noise goes. It's the Cry Baby that hisses like crazy when engaged. All the other effects are ok. So I tried the the Wah with batteries on the board, and it hissed again. I noticed that moving the power strip with the 9V Adapter away from the pedalboard helps very much. Any suggestion?

What you experienced is normal...
Wah due to their inductors, don't really mix well with a wallwart strip near by... that's easely understood as it's a magnetic field thing. As far as suggestion goes... I can suggest having the power strip away using an "extention cord" to bring the power to the pedalboard from the wallwart(s) You could also see if having it on the pedalboard but as far away as possible from the wah resolves your problem. These should help, of course if you got a ground loop happening that's another story, but you were not talking about hum so I assume it's not your problem. Hope this helps a bit. |

Thanks Glorbz,
I already tried it on a gig Friday night. It worked. I just moved the wallwart away from the pedalboard (about 12") and the noise was gone, everything was silent. Maybe the Fulldrive doesn't sound as good as with batteries, but for me it's worth it not to have to think about getting batteries, checking them before every gig and so on. It was a great experience building my own pedalboard. |
