after a massive and ongoing sell-off, i have revamped the OD/Dist/Fuzz section of my pedal board. and while these pedals are hardly "news" any longer, i can easily see why they're so highly regarded.

with some helpful tips from donner as to pedal sequencing i'm running:

Boss PQ4 (modded parametric eq) -> EasyFace -> Pink Purple Fuzz -> Honey Bee -> Timmy. tried it for the first time with the band last night and it was more than i had hoped for.

each pedal is useful on it's own and stacked. particularly great sounding is the PPF/HB/Timmy combo with or without the tone shaping provided by the PQ4. add a bit of DM2 and it's tone heaven. even my bandmates who usually roll their eyes about my sounding "too metal," were blown away by the difference. it took me a long time to make the jump and get these pedals, and now i'm kicking myself for waiting so long.

another recent acquisition is a Bronto Jr. (Tone Dog mod) which i haven't had much time to play with as yet. a pleasant surprise was the print-outs included with the pedal. 20 pages of forum messages from may-june 03 covering the pedal, plus the instruction sheets from joe gagan.

and to top it all off the SG Classic arrived yesterday. this is the first "new" guitar i've had since the 80's, and i must say, Gibson did these right. nice one piece mahogany body with a beautiful cherry finish, comfortable neck profile - not too fat or thin, frets finished well, and lightweight compared to the Standards and Specials i've tried. the P90's sound like they should and all in all, i'm very pleased. if anyone is looking for a SG, i highly recommend getting one of these. they only made em for a few years which is a shame. the SG Classics are good!

thanks to everyone on the forum who have provided their opinions, suggestions, likes and dislikes. this is a great community!

Hey Jon, can you tell some more on the TIMMY (does it have bass and highs knobs?)? A small review would be great!

Is the Timmy a protoype or the final product?

Woo-hoo! That's some serious joy all in one go! Big Grin Care to talk a bit about how you're using the Honey Bee and how you find it?

Yeah tell us how you're using the Tim/HB stack, when I try stacking those and then add other pedals on top it gets kinda muddy, usually I use them seperately with the Tim being a transparent rhythym sound(good for stacking other OD's into) and the HB for a thicker sound(good for stacking distortions/fuzzes).

Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should, but did you have your PQ4 modded? If so, how and by whom? Fellow PQ4 owners wanna know! Big Grin

hmm, well i've only used these pedals for a couple of days, and only one practice with the band, so i don't think i'm in the best position to speak knowledgebly about them as yet. but tomorrow i'll be recording using the new stuff, and also playing a gig on sunday, so if youse all can hold out to then, i'll probably have a lot more useful feedback to write about.

re: Timmy. mxr-size box. vol/gain/bass/treble. no boost or loop. this one is a prototype as i don't believe this version has been released.

one quick note about the Tim/HB stack. i'm actually doing it HB into the Tim. this allows me to use the Tim to brighten up the sound as needed, but still keep the "honey goodness" (sorry, couldn't resist), and low-end pump/grind of the HB intact.

in fact, i wasn't thrilled with the Tim by itself at first (though i am now), but man, does it smooth out both the PPF, which is pretty smooth to begin with, and the HB perfectly, without detracting from the sound of either. for my setup: P90 SG Jr./Classic and P90 Les Paul into an Ampeg V4 or V2 head and a 2x12 Altec 417 or 2x12 Harry Joyce cab, i couldn't ask for better.

PQ4: yes, i had it modded in a similar vein to what Tone Sniper is doing with the GE7 mod. i like the parametric much better than the graphic as i can dial in exactly what i need and with the mod, the pedal is quieter, has a bit more headroom and gain, and is a bit more "hi-fi" sounding. i had a local guy do mine as a side project, but i think that Josh (FX Doctor) or Tone Sniper could probably mod these.

more later.

jonc

ps. yes, the SG Classic is really nice! oops, i already said that.

Christmas in September! Jon, I'm very pleased (and a bit relieved) to hear that you dig the SG Classic. I've been playing mine all evening, it's a great instrument. Enjoy the new goodies.
