Has anybody tried the new Emminence Red Fang alnicos? The ads claim they sound like Celestion Alnico Blues at half the cost.

Is it just hype? I refuse to believe that a huge manufacturer would mislead anyone simply to increase profits!

2 Kings 2:23-24 NKJV:
And as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths."

i think this has gotten some airtime here on the forums already but i'd be glad to offer my experience...

i have a pair in an avatar cab that i use with my Orange AD30-TC head. they sound great. they definatly don;t sound identical to blues but they are similar. i ws looking for something with alot of high end clarity to milk the vox-y-ness out of my Orange. i tried it with blues and decided i had to have them! then i looked in my bank account and decided i had to have red fangs Wink i don't regret it. they are easily the best bargain i've found in speakers.

the tonkers on the other hand...i'd rather swallow them then play them....

no offense taken at all. as with most things, it's all in the eye/ear of the beholder. and of course the match or lack of with whatever equipment you're using. i had asked doug roccoforte for his recommendation about which new emminence to try with my Ampeg V4 head, and he was right on target with the Tonkers.

that doesn't mean they're gonna work for everyone or in every situation. guess that's one of the reasons emminence released so many speakers at one time.

Well, I bought Dan's Tonkers so I could have a 2x12 that could handle my brutal '70 100w Super Bass. They sound excellent. Thanks Dan!
