I just got the new Gov't Mule CD thru pre order. Came with a free live CD that has 8 songs. 12 tracks on Deja Voodoo. The first is "Bad Man Walking", a heavy funk tune with a killer riff and a wah solo. Next up is "About to Rage", it has a bluesy groove to it and at the end Warren goes off on a killer solo. "Perfect Shelter" starts with a weird wah a little funkified and Matt Abts has an off time drum beat going. "Little Toy Brain" is a soulful tune with a great vocal by Warren. Danny Louis does a fine job on a Rhodes and also a B-3. Next is "Slackjaw Jezebel" a funky countrified tune. "Wine and Blood" is a slow song featuring a Leslie effect on guitar. "Lola Leave Your Light On" is a riff heavy southern rock type song. "Silent Scream" also has the Leslie type guitar sound and it has a Sgt. Pepper's/Pink Floyd feel to it. "No Celebration" starts out slow with a sad lament then get aggresive and has great lyrics. Up next is "Mr. Man" this tune sounds like the old Gov't Mule in terms of feel and the first song where Andy Hess' bass work comes alive, but the guitar solo is buried. "My Separate Reality" is another beautiful slow tune with great lyrics. The last song is "New World Blues", beginning with lyrics "Life is not a comprimise, though it often turns to this" is a tune that starts with a haunting air to it and the chorus is very Deep Purple-ish. The best solo on the album is here. After 1 listen I like it and after a few more I will love it. It is a new path for Gov't Mule. The mix is shady at times, and Warren Haynes' vocals are buried alot. he has such a great voice and it should be brought forward more.
KEEP ROCKIN'

This will be a hard album for me to purchase. I love Warren and the Mule boys, but Allan Woody was SUCH a big part of the sound and a highly underrated bass player...
IF you don't get it I'll come over and give you a whoppin!!!!!! I agree that Allen Woody was awesome, but don't forget that his spirit is very much still a part of Gov't Mule. I can't get enough of this band and Warren's playing. Some of his solo's give me chills.
HAHAHA.... I plan on molesting many more DS-1's. I should send you one to try out.
I just got the Mule CD. So far I like it. The band does seem to have a new/different sound, but that may be more related to the engineer or producer.
Woody will never be replaced, but I wish George Porter Jr could have joined the band. That guy plays the song "Mule" like a madman!!!! He can really lay it down.
Heck yeah! Send me a DS-1, mon! I'd love to try your goods out.
I'll get around to getting the new Mule CD soon. I second that thought on the Porter-man, heck of a bass player and good harmony vocals w/Warren too. My other two choices are/were Roger Glover (I've ALWAYS dug Roger's playeing in Purple and Rainbow--very underrated) and John Entwhisle (R.I.P. )

+2 on Porter, the first time I watched the Deepest End DVD I thought, THAT has to become their new bass player, what a groove, what a voice. I'll be picking up the new Mule ASAP, meaning IF I can find one in Belgium otherwise I'll be ordering online soon!
