I have recently come across something new in my Marshall quest....My bass player says he knows a guy with a 20-watt red tolex marshall with a matching marshall 2 10" cab, both circa 70-72. What is this, exactly? I've never heard of such a thing...Did Marshall make something like this? It would be perfect b/c I find my present 100-watter a little too loud..He says the guy will sell it for $200 (and it's supposedly in very good condition).

I sure hope you bought that Marshall. Hell, the *Tolex* is worth $200...

Oh, it turned out to be a piece of crap lead 12 solid state with like 4 8"s or something. Sounded like shit. Looked circa 85'. That guy isn't my bass player anymore.

About 15 years ago I played with a drummer who had a '65 Deluxe Reverb he used to mic his vocals. Don't ask me why. He had no idea what he had. I bought the amp from him for $150 (I still feel slightly guilty...).
Marshall made some GREAT 18- and 20-watt amps in the late 60s/early 70s, but they do get confused with the cheapo solid-state amps they made at the time.

Don't ask me why but a lot of those 20 watt Marshalls were called " PA " heads . usually 2 inputs , volume and tone for each . I see them here ( LA ) going for about $700.00 - $800.00 . They sound glorious and you can turn them up ALL the way . The ones I've seen use el - 84's in the power section .

I saw a 20W plexi for sale on ebay a while ago. Pics looked exactly like a 100w, except it had a shorter, less tall chassis. Id buy one without hesitation if i saw one.
