Hey pb...I can't speak to the Geranium or Electric smile(...yet) but I can about the Ol' Yeller. The build quality on this box is quite good. H.L. makes each one of his effects himself by hand. The solder joints are clean and the wiring is well laid out on a breadboard rather than PCB. Quality parts are used throughout. What this amounts to is a quiet and very good sounding effect. The OY is based on the TS808/9 circuit without buffering and uses a different chip to drive it. From H.L.: "...The OY has more gain, increased low-end, more output and a broader tone-control range...". To check this, I A/B'd it with a Maxon OD-808(the TS808 RI). The OY nails the TS vibe but it is cleaner and sweeter overall especially in the mids. I thought this was hype but I heard it on two different amps(Soldano Astroverb-16, Fender SF Vibrolux) using the same guitar(G&L ASAT-3). By comparision the OD-808 is slighty pinched and nasal. It's not bad, but compared to the OY it is noticible. This really shows up when you're on the higher frets...the OY has nice singing, sweet sustain. The HC reviews are accurate at least on the OY. I can only think that the Geranium and Electric Smile are equally good in what they do. According to H.L, the Geranium is based on the germanium-based Fuzz Face circuit with input control (the toggle switch). The Electric Smile is based on the Tychobrahe Octavia. Drop H.L a line if you have specific questions...he's always answered mine. http://www.addrock.com
