Hey gang. I'm looking for a OD/distortion pedal that does seem to exist.
In a nutshell, I'm looking for something that has the gain characteristics of the TS and derivatives, but want something with significantly more bass/less pronounced mids. My FM Fulldrive 2 is what I've settled on, mostly for it's features. But even with the "flat mids" it's way to mid heavy/missing low end. If I put the Fatboost on in front of it, it's almost where I want out of the OD pedal alone. Some things I've heard that might do the trick include a Keeley BD-2, Marshall Guv'nor (original) or a Tonebone....maybe a Barber DDSS or Tone Pump. Only problem is none of these are readily available around Dallas for a try. Any suggestions? |

Yeah, you mentioned some good ones. I would recommend the Barber DDSS paired with your Fat Boost. I have been playing with that all morning! The Tonebone Classic is another good one with active tone controls -you should get the bass you want easily, but I did hear of one guy wanting more. It probably depends on your setup some.

Thanks for the info, Nathan. For reference, I'm running a hollow ash Tele into a Rivera Knucklehead 55/212 cab. Mostly going for classic rock type sounds....Plexi or pushed Super Reverb type stuff.

Pedalworx Texas Two Step or Tour Pro would fit the bill nicely also. A TS variant with no mid hump, tight bass and way more touch sensitive than other pedals of its ilk. And it screams too. The Texas Two step is a two stomper and the Tour Pro is just the single stomp "wild" portion of the TTS circuit.

I would suggest at least checking out a Reverend Drivetrain. It's essentially a TS with way more bottom, including a bass and treble control. The drive tone itself may or may not be up your alley, but if you're looking for a TS with more bottom, that would be my go-to pedal.

A cheap way to go is the Tubeworks Real Tube 901 with the stock tube replaced with a 12AU7 or 5751 green label. I have a NOS GE 12AX7A in mine and I would'nt ever take it off my board. 3 band EQ lets you dial in some smokin classic rock tube amp break-up / distortion, and the pedal new is $99 used about $70 but you have to ditch the stock tube for something a little less gainy and muddy. I'm running it into a Top Hat Club Royale set at slight break-up with the guitar volume maxed and the pedal sounds better than the natural amp distortion when I peg the gain.
