Well I spoke to Ben Fargen last night about building a custom Blackbird, and he agreed.

Here's the plan...

I wanted a BF sounding amp with the wattage switch similar to the Mini Plex, but Ben did me one better.

30w w/ 4 6v6 with a wattage switch to go from 30 down to 18w.

Or I can pull all of the 6v6 tubes and throw 2 6L6 in the middle positions for 40w.

I can't wait to get this sucker.
Cool Cool

you're gonna love it. i actually visited with ben today and when i mentioned a discussion about the blackbird on the Toyz forum, he just smiled.

what a class act, nice guy, super great builder and has a neat o' workshop to boot.

man, am i green with envy. but then, i was able to nab an early fargen "epic 30" which ben is fixing up for me, so i can't feel all bad.

it's so nice meeting folks like this. makes all the crap o'la stuff more tolerable. and btw, did i say how much you're gonna love the amp?

That does it. I'm selling my amps and getting a freakin' Fargen.

Freakin' fargen, ha. Whatever happened to the Alessandro? Tired of it already, or did the Fargen bug just bite you really hard? Wink

part of the fun with talking to ben was saying "so and so" (insert bbs handle here), and he'd go, oh yeah, pete or whomever. one of the biggest "smiles" came with the guy who goes by the handle Procos on the GearNet. it seems like he has every boutique amp ever built and buys em as collectibles. it must be nice to have a lots of spare $ around.

and have i mentioned what a class act ben is?

That Procos dude has so many nice amps. I am stretching myself right now buying ONE boutique amp that is about 600-800 dollars cheaper than most of them out there (except the Z stuff).

You're right, it must be nice having tons of money sitting around. But atleast he spends it on the right stuff, LOL.. Wink
