Anyone have both of these...or heard both of these...I'd really love to hear a comparison of the strengths and weaknesses of both of these units as I'm debating getting a compressor. - C.

The FK-1 is reportedly an exact copy of the Keeley, but with an internal attack trimmer. I believe the internal attack trimmer is going to be on the "New" Keeley compressor.

Too soon to have a shoot out since the FK-1 only came out this week. Geoffrey should send one to Donner to do an addedum to the Great Comp comparison.

neat...so the internal attack trimmer (trimpot?) is really supposed to be the ONLY differene?

i mean i had read that it was definately modeled after the keeley but if it actually sounds THE SAME for a hundred bucks less I'm going to have to buy one.

Thanks man.

I've never heard it, but I can tell you one thing I don't like about it: the knobs. As far as I can tell, they are guitar "speed" knobs, with no line on them to tell you where they are positioned at a glance. An easy fix to be sure, but something I hope Geoffery might change in the future.

I use the set screw as the "indicator" for my guitars and pedals that use that type of knob.

Or - here's a tip from Adam at Demeter Amps, where they've just started using these knobs on some of their "limited edition" pedals, including the Compulator (which is an OPTICAL compressor BTW, using a photocell, rather different to Ross clones like the Keeley & RMC "FK 1") : -

- Borrow some of your girlfriend/wife/sister's nail varnish - black is prolly best, but whatever floats your boat... - as long as the knobs are clean when you apply it (Zippo lighter fluid will clean 'em up good), apparently it'll stay on pretty much forever....

The Keeley is an exact clone of the Ross Compressor with metal film resistors and film capacitors, so the FK-1 could merely be a Ross clone and it would therefore bear strong resemblance to the Keeley... just to be fair to Mr. Teese. Smile

The attack mod to the Ross compressor has been documented in the one or more of the d-i-y forums at least 2 years ago so it cannot be directly attributed to either pedal...

Both Keeley and Teese are top-notch builders! I'm sure the new FK-1 will sound excellent.

regards, Jack

Even with the addition of an internal attack control, the Ross clones do not offer enough control over a compressor's parameters and all the filtering screws with the top end. Get a Blackbox Oxygen if you want a great compressor. It also has a noise gate built right in that does a great job keeping things quiet.
