Just wondering if anyone has tried this pedal. Guitar player gave this a great review and the price is quite reasonable.

I just got mine today from Musictoyz.com. I really like it, it's exactly what I was looking for. Smooth, warm overdrive with good note articulation. I love picking chords, so that is important to me. I particularly love the clean boost knob, which mixes in an uncompressed clean signal into the overdrive. However, if you take the clean boost knob much past the 12 oclock position the overdrive gets squashed by the clean signal, so you have to be care. Actually you get two pedals in one; a great warm overdrive and a clean boost,...or both, so maybe it's three. Anyway, it sounds great with my Fender Telesonic, and I can't wait to use it with my Strats (Big Apple, and California w/SD Custom Custom bridge humbuckers in both). I have a Mesa Boogie Tremoverb head, so I wanted a warmer overdrive tone to compliment the "over-the-top" high gain tones that are built into the Tremoverb, and now I have it.

Probos, Is the Sparkle Drive a transparent overdrive?I am trying to go for an early Blackmore or Trower type of sound.

Stratfink,
Well, if you mean transparent from that stand point that it doesn't color your amps tone, then I would say it does a pretty good job of that. The overdrive is circuitry is modeled after the vintage '808 Tubescreamer, including the original JRC4558 opamp for authenticity. But of course Voodoo Labs says it's components are much better. I think the clean boost makes it even more transparent to the ear. But you have to careful with it. If you turn the knob (clean boost) much past the 12 o'clock position it takes over and the drive is lost.
