I'm thinking about trying one of these, but I have read mixed reviews about them. How do they sound separately or combined with a Tim pedal? I use a Strat or 335 into a Deluxe Reverb. I am looking for a RF "Handful of Blues" type of tone. Also, have they fixed the switch problems? Thanks. Cool

I like the AC Booster I have, I use it with various amps but mostly a Blues Junior and a Strat, it has plenty of depth if required and doesn't have quite the mid hump of some other types, it's that old word again though subjectivity hence the reason that theres an endless stream of pedals on the market and it's all down to what suits your purpose, I would suggest that you try one out first then make your decision.

I will probably order it and ebay it if I don't like it. I'm just looking for some feedback before I pull the trigger. Smile

I like mine for smoother drive tones. I prefer using it with the gain up above 12oclock.

I have used it with a 535H with seth lovers and a Legacy with sc's and it works well with both.

Maple topped guitars like 335's don't sound the same as carved spruce tops but roll the volume and tone back a little with this pedal and it gets a nice fusionish tone. Good pedal, even better with the RC, have not tried it with my Tim.

I think they are using the same switch, mine have not failed and they have great customer service if needed.

I like this pedal also. It's very smooth and amp-like. To me, it produces a "loose" feel, unlike Tube screamers which tend to sound very smooth, yet more tight and compact. This one's more velvety smooth, and also has a great EQ section.

First I used it as a medium overdrive by itself. Then, I used it to boost my amp's dirty channel, with the gain around 10:30, and it worked incredibly GREAT that way.

Now it's off the board. But it's a great pedal. Wink

Hendrix2430,

What pedal(s) replaced it on your board?

A Klon Centaur. I just like the midrange voicing on the Klon a bit better. It can get a bit too nasaly when the gain is up around 2 for some people (although I like it), but around 11 or 12, it has a character that I like even more.
Overall, it's as articulate and vocal a pedal I've played.

I just received my AC Booster yesterday. I was kind of ambivalent about it until I used it with my Tim. As someone else said about this combo, it is "freaky good". It was exactly the tone I was looking for. Has anyone else had the same experience. I used the AC before the Tim, only because that's where there was room on my board.

Yes, I have used the TIM with the AC before, and liked what I heard. But, I like the RC Booster in front of the AC even more. That RC is really a great pedal, and it tough to beat for a straight up flat booster.

Another Vote for The RC and AC Booster combination here. Really impressive sound and works extremely well with eith Single Coils or Buckers. Wouldn't be without mine that's for sure.

So how are using the RC with the AC. Is the RC a flat boost into the AC or is it after the AC? Is the RC set for clean boost or do you have the gain turned up?

All of those work nicely. I have not determined how much volume boost the ac will handle with the rc before it but the order of pedals works nicely either way depending on what you want.

I love my RC. It's one of the best pedals I've ever owned and since I got it, I haven't even considered another booster. Versatile and sounds great - a definite keeper. See my thread "Eric Heatherly Joined Us On Stage...." for an unsolicited testimonial!

I use the RC with the volume from 3 to full up, gain around 12, treble dialed in at 2 O clock, and bass dialed back around 10-11.

The AC with the gain between 12 and 1, volume to taste, treble and bass controls around 1:30, with the treble knob just a tiny bit further.

The RC is great.

Hendrix,

do you use the RC on all the time, and the ac as a solo boost? or the other way around?

Well, I used to use the AC as an medium/high gain overdrive. Right now the AC isn't on my board, the Mosferatu is. But that's just temporary most likely.

The RC is used as a solo boost.

Personally I leave the RC running all the time and then add the AC where required...BUT.....there's no reason why one can't leave the AC running throughout as well because of its superb response to the Guitars Volume control. That said.....unlike so many other Guys here....I only use The RC and AC and a Chorus and Delay. So others will be able to expand on this area for you I'm sure. Wink
