Zach or anyone,

What do these babies sound like? Are they an updated version of the original?

Are these not basically a modified fuzz factory circuit? If so can you do the sounds of a fuzz factory on an octane? I don't own the fuzz factory and I want to buy either the octane or fuzz factory so I want to know if i really need them both, or can i get the same sounds out of each pedal?

thanks

alright...i'm not just saying this to blow smoke up mr. vex's ass...but this is like the most violent sounding pedal i have ever played.....its just cuts....like a regular octavia with a bit more ring modulation and a lot more thick razor style fuzz...its the shit....glad he reissued it or whatever....these things sell for like $500 and more used....

it sounds like a car crash, doesn't it? or at least like the engine over-revving. to answer the other person up there, no, there is absolutely no similarity between the octane and the fuzz factory. the fuzz factory is an experimental fuzz. the octane sounds like a ring-modulator-based octave being run through a blender. it's in the family of circuits similar to super-fuzzes (univox), apollo fuzzes (apollo, also shin-ei, who made univox too), fender blender, octavia, and many others, but for some reason, the octane has it's own kind of zippy craziness.

i can only tell you that when i test these things, i get stuck... my assistant always taps me on the shoulder to remind me that i stopped plugging in new ones. 20 minutes will go by and i'm still testing the same one.

the improvements over the old octane and octane 2? i put in an led, which meant that i had to put in the r.g. keen millenium bypass switching circuit with input silencing, but that way i was able to preserve true-bypass with a tough carling dpdt switch instead of using one of those wimpy imports that the other guys use. good ol' r.g... he's been posting interesting circuits on the internet for years. check out his site at http://www.geofex.com if you like making fun electronics for music.

i was able to reduce the radio reception that the old octanes suffered from. they were popular in japan before, so i guess they must not use the same frequencies for AM radio there. high gain boxes almost always pick up some radio. listen to those live jimi hendrix records.

merry early christmas.

In the land of noise-pop, the ability to consistently pick up a radio signal is a bonus, not a defect...

once upon a time (4 years ago) there was an octane 2. the story goes like this... i discontinued the octane because i couldn't make it and the seek-wah at the same time (too much work.) my japanese distributor needed more, but i was afraid that the collectors would get really mad if i reissued it immediately after telling everyone i was through making it! so to preserve the collectibilty of the original octanes, i changed the name to the octane 2 so i could both satisfy my japanese distributor and keep the hardcore collectors from thinking i was a complete fink. 8^)

the octane III is the only one of them that's actually got some changes to the electronics... the LED and some radio signal reduction, but the audio circuit is exactly the same as the older octanes.

i don't know of any dealers that sell at prices lower than teddy's at musictoyz, but i don't set anyone's prices... they are free to bargain.

my dealer list is on my website. i have no idea what people have in stock on a day-to-day basis.
