I've had nearly my dream rig put together for a while now (after years of spending more than I should!), but lately it's been starting to sound like crap to me. I got a gift certificate for my birthday and decided to try one of those Dano eq pedals, cause I heard they're better than Boss ones.

Got it home and after a couple of minutes tweeking, I'm back in tone heaven! I must say, the tone is very transparent with no noise. You can't peg any of the settings, because it will distort at high gain, but for tone shaping and mild boosting, it's perfect!

Been trying to cop Robin Trower's tone for years now, and never quite nailed it. This is the closest I've come to it yet.

I set up the eq like this:
100 200 400 800 1.6 3.2 6.4 LVL

The 800hz band was muddying up my tone before, so I killed it; now the mild boost at 200 and 1.6khz make my amp sound really fat and alive.

That saved me from going through another costly bout of GAS! And I love my tone again.

Sorry for that crappy ANSI art; let me try the "code" code...

Did that work?

Of course. I'll list my amp and effects chain below (feel free to skip that part).

My point is, though, that such an inexpensive effect ($40 new) can have such an elegant and powerful impact on the perceived quality of my sound. I wouldn't necessarily want it on all the time. E.g; when I'm using a wah pedal. I can see why David Gilmour would have several different Boss eq's set up in his rig for different tones.

My current setup is:
Fender MIJ 60's Reissue Strat (Lindy Fralin pups & GHS 10's) ->
SIB Varidrive w/Mullard CV4003/12AU7 tube ->
Thomas Cry Baby wah ->
SweetSound UltraVibe ->
Dano 7-band eq ->
Peavey TG Raxx preamp (clipping diodes disconnected) w/Mullard CV4004/12AX7 and the no-name tube out of the Varidrive ->
vintage tube EchoPlex ->
Traynor Mark 3 (100 Watt; EL34's) ->
Jackson closed-back 2x12 w/Celestians.
