ive heard some samples of these and they sound pretty cool to mess with. Any recommendations as in which to look for? and aslo if you can mention a few recordings that have them i would greatly appreciate it.

Big Briar Mooger Fooger,Black Kat, Menatone O-Ring . These 3 are probably the most radical ... and variable . A less intense ringer but still very musical would be a Gretsch "Playboy" or an original Dan Armstrong "Green Ringer" . These two are vintage and hard to find...and expensive.
IMHO Jeff Beck on Truth,Wired, and Blow by Blow and John McLaughlin and Jan Hammer w/the Mahavishnu Orch. are the most musical examples .Don't know what type they used though . Original Fuzzfaces and Tonebenders (as well as others of that ilk)can give you ring mod sounding stuff when you play more than one note at a time.
LoveTone makes a great one as well. Hope this helps.

I would definitely recommend the Lovetone Ring Stinger. Words really don't describe the pedal. I will say it is the most over-the-top pedal I've ever heard. But, to my thinking, that's pretty much the goal of a ring mod. Ring mods just aren't very musical. However, the Ring Stinger, like all Lovetones, is a hybrid and is capable of creating new and radical tones (it also has an incredible octave fuzz, unique trem sounds, a theremin (yes, a theremin) and more). Again, words fail- but I highly recommend Lovetone pedals if you are seeking to create your own unique tones. If you're looking to copy somebody, you might prefer to look elsewhere.

I've also heard the Black Cat. It's an o.k. pedal (pretty much a copy of the old classic, Maestro Ring Mod), but is very limited when compared to the Lovetone- but it's also a lot cheaper.

May I comment on the Snarling Dog Mold Spore wah? Ring mod and wah, both at once or individually. With ring mod, you can set the pedal to whichever tone you want, nice feature. Also can set it to be real trebly and bell-like or more mellow. Clearly not the coolest one out there, but being able to change the ring mod frequency with a pedal makes it jammable. Rock on

I haven't used the Frostwave Ring Modulator, but I have both versions of their Resonant Filter, and it is a GREAT FX box, so I'd certainly recommend the company. I believe that MusicToyz carries Frostwave stuff ...
(and it's probably pretty inexpensive these days since the Aus$ is currently weak compared to US$).

Actually, I am the biggest Pavement fan. SM is a great guitar player and a great writer. I have everything ever released by Pavement. Too bad they broke up. As for Corrigan, the guy is a moron but Gish and Siamese Dream were two excellent albums.

And Pavement records are just cornerstones of good sound to me. Up there with the best bands that have ever been.

I believe "Corgan" is spelled as "Corgan", not "Corrigan". Im not being snotty, just setting the record straight. You are right, though, hes an oaf sometimes. Anyway, i have owned two Ring Mods, a EH Frequency Analyzer Reissue and a Frostwave Blue Ringer. I loved both, but i think i liked the Blue Ringer better. You could reaaaalllly shape your sound to a precise tone, but the Analyzer sounded better sometimes. It all boils down to what you want!

Try the Line6 MM4's ring mod (be sure to use the expression pedal for sweeping it around--like a Whammy pedal on acid). Snarling Dog's ring mod is ok, but it creates a noticeable buzzing hum that is annoying through a clean channel. I sent it in for repairs, but it still has the same problem. Also, the Dog ring mod does not sustain very long, which can be a real pain to calculate when your notes will be cut off. The Line6 nixed all of these problems and is way more adjustable.
