The way I see it, I personally shouldn't need more than three: one for light, chordable crunch, one for big creamy distortion that's still decently chord-friendly, and one for vintage fuzz/farty stuff.
I've got a SCOD (huge distortion, not so great with chords), Screw Driver (light dist/fuzz wunderbox), Liquid Sunshine (like the Screw Driver, but less versatile), OCD (big dist, great with chords), and Urso Splinter (vintage fart machine) right now and two of 'em have got to go, lest I feel wasteful. Mercy, it's like choosing children. My real dilemma right now, I suppose, is that I like the SCOD's feedback ability better than the OCD's, but the OCD is better able to handle open chords. Liquid Sunshine might also need to go, but that hurts my heart. - - - - - - - Armada-Band.com MySpace.com/ArmadForPresident Facebook.com/Pages/Armada/35001145680 |

I currently have the following on my board:
Sweet Sound Filmore Fuzz Timmy TS-9 with my own "silver" mod A prototype OD I'm working on. Tentatively called the FUSD. I've got pretty much any drive sound I need covered with these pedals. I have a few new ones and at the moment it´s a mess since I have to decide which ones will stay and which ones will go.
Mine are: FatBoost (it´s on all the time, not but not as a dirt pedal, just to boost the signal a little bit) Honey Bee Zendrive and XTC precision overdrive (not sure which one to keep of those. I keep changing my mind every day) OCD v3 Timmy (as a booster for solos) Fulldrive II, Fuzz 69 has left the pedal board and Tim has never been on and not sure if it will end up on the board. Possible solution is to buy a new board, but I think there are only two types of pedal boards - new ones and too small ones! ;-) |

It varies. Right now I've got a Fatboost 2, a Zendrive, an MI Audio Crunch Box (mostly for rhythm stuff). an OCD v1, and a Timmy. The OCD seems to get the most work on rock or "new" blues songs; the Zendrive is great for Rockabilly/boogie stuff and classic blues. I like having boosts at either end; the FB2 sounds great pushing the Zendrive, and the OCD sounds incredible through the Timmy. The Crunchbox gets the least use and may go. I've found that my Gainster tends to get lost in the mix a bit more readily than the Zendrive: they're pretty similar otherwise.

Several but I am in a trio and have to make a Strat and an LP work in a number of different styles:
main board: v4 KOT BK Butler Tube Driver Soulbender OCD Other board: Fulltone '70 Analogman SunFace Barber DDSS Fulldrive II Mosfet Some of the latter might replace some in the main board, depending on the setlist. |

Cream Pie (used more as an on all the time booster/thickener, but it does add a touch of dirt and compression when I roll the volume knob up for solos)
COT50 (very light dirt) BBOD (solos only) SIB Varidrive (med dirt) Cold Fusion (clean boost) I do have an Octavia at the beginning of the chain, but I just use that for one solo. Occasionally I'll throw a fuzz in front of my pedal board also (DIY Fuzz Face or Soiled Dove). |

I will go as high has 3- plus a boost sometimes, usually following your formula, Jensen, of: od, distortion, fuzz-and maybe a boost.
Right now I'm just trying to use shades of amp dirt with different mosfet clean boosts. I have a Euthymia Crucible germ fuzz that I love, and is really a sleeper. It goes on and off the board because I only use it on 1-2 songs. I try not to have the board jam packed for gigs because I don't have the coordination to work a back row of pedals. I think how dirty your amp can get and how much you like that dirt is going to play a role for everybody. |

I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the Pearl Drive. It seems like I heard some clips a while back and it was the first time a new drive pedal sparked my interest in quite a while. |

I have two boards.
For my Blackface, there are four. 1 low and 1 mid gainer specifically for overdriving the BF, 1 for Dumble tones, and 1 for Marshall tones. Those being: - Skreddy Screwdriver - C/B Gainster - Fuchs Plush - Jetter Gold For my Marshall board, there are five. 2 Fuzz for use with Strat/SC-pups, and 3 OD/Dist for use with humbuckers. Those being: - Mojohand Huckleberry V2 - Skreddy Top Fuel - PaulC Timmy (w/ LM1458 chip) - Jetter Green - Catalinbread SCOD. I wouldn't say you have too many gritboxes, provided you have a use/love for each of those pedals. V P.S. the SCOD and Screwdriver are two of my favorite and longest running pedals. You'd be nuts to let either of those go, IMHO. |

I know! They're my favorites for sure. I guess I really need to choose between the Liquid Sunshine and Splinter. I like to fantasize about not owning an OCD for originality's sake, but I don't know if I can do it. - - - - - - - Armada-Band.com MySpace.com/ArmadForPresident Facebook.com/Pages/Armada/35001145680 |

A killer rock pedal; amp-like natural sounding overdrive that stays clear, not a tube screamer – more amp-like than that - maintains plenty of low end response regardless of the gain setting, great at high or low volumes too. It loves singlecoils. Lots of touch sensitivity, reacts well to picking pressure. It is priced right - a relatively long wait for the small enclosure though. I have 2 on my board:
-D*A*M Drag'nFly -Menatone TBAIC My amp has a nice OD bite, the TBIAC gives it more depth, drive and dimension, while the Drag'nFly (fuzz), has more gain and honk. Both pedals just happen to blend in perfectly with my amp's orig. sound. |
