WOW, Whole Lotta Love on the board recently! That warm, fuzzy feeling of brotherly love is hard to describe with words, don't you think? I rarely get a chance to get online until the wee hours (it's my substitute for late night TV), so I miss most of the really juicy 'n' nasty scuttlebuttin'... probably for the best. But since several of us are already pissed off and cranky anyway, allow me to toss out another bone for you guys (and gals?) to chew on...!
What is your opinion about threads that have been elongated, due to extended pics, sig lines, links, or various other culprits? Would you have any interest in establishing some sort of standard guidelines to eliminate such? I can only speak for myself, but when I encounter the elongated threads, it's just too much of a pain in the ass to read , and at that point, I pretty much just dismiss the thread, and don't return. My peripheral vision is awful. Anyway, the whole deal just sucks from my perspective, because I'm sure I miss out on some cool info. . . . . . . . . . So, if I'm just being anal-retentive, and this particular gnat bite bites only me, kindly disregard. I'm more than happy to crawl back into my cage, and will have no problem with continuing to skip past the "wide screen" threads. However, if you have any interest in discussing the matter, whether you agree or disagree, please chime in. ________________ Tone is in the feet. |

For example, check out <<page 2>> of this thread:

I don't like the Cinemascope wide pages, if that's what you are referring to, Oh Mighty One. Love, Dave

Corleone...great idea I'm pretty much with you on all points here...
I stopped trying to post pics as mine came out huge and I just didn't know how to downsize them... how do threads that start small and normal end up like that anyway...and more importantly...how can we prevent that from happening either with written text or "EXTRA LARGE" pics...?? Chow, Seegs |

Yep, Mr. Dave, Cinemascope is what I'm referring to. No scratch 'n' sniff perks, unfortunately. No mightier than thou, my friend.
Seegs, I'm at the mercy of the more digitally-literate. My understanding is that it's a matter of "pixels", with regard to graphics. ________________ Tone is in the feet. |

i too hate the extra wide threads that i have to scroll to right to read. i definitely just end up not even bothering with it. i guess that attests to how far we've come. you used to have to drive or walk to the library, use the dewey decimal system to *maybe* find a book that contains what is probably outdated information. now, it's all at my fingertips, and i ingnore because i have to drag my mouse to right. weird. anyway, i'd be down for setting guidelines so that doesn't happen.
seegs, you need to change the resolution of the photo. either with the camera's option before you take the picture, or with the software that you use to import that picture. there should be a way to preview how big the pic will be, and adjust to the size you want. if it's saved at 640x480 or bigger, the chances are that it will dominate our monitors, and most photos taken directly from a digital camera without modification are that size. hope that helps. |

big huge jpeg's are SO annoying
folks need to learn how to post smaller ones before they put 'em on the web threads that go too wide because of huge photos..... i just skip them and go to the next! --------------------- |

I'm guilty of inflating a thread in the pedalboard pics recently. Unfortunately I am a techno-idiot and didn't know how to shrink the pic.
Apologies . . . cause it bugged me too. _______________ Soli Deo Gloria |

quote: LOL Joel! I hope I didnt sound rude.... now it seems I might've been but yeah, it's a little tough to navigate those. As a bit of advice, when you upload pictures, don't upload the whole master file. Shrink it or reduce it in your email program (Outlook Express does it automatically for you), or in your camera's bundled software, or in Photoshop, etc. Evewn a lot of the photo websites have a utility that'll do it for you. seeya! --------------------- |

quote: in a picture editing program (i'm using picture it! 7.0 right now, at home i use photoshop, but paint should work and everybody's got that) go to an option that should say "resize image" or "image size". in this program it's in the "format" menu, but it could definitely vary. then just adjust it to about 6 inches wide or less. make sure the option to "constrain proportions" is selected so the picture doesn't get squished and you should be fine. in paint you can just click on the picture, click on the dot that should appear in its corner, and drag it until it's the size you want. to make sure the picture is the right size, go to "view" and there should be an option to see the picture at 100%. that'll be a true representation of its size. save it as a jpeg and you're gravy. hope that helps, i hope it applies to the program you're using, and i hope it made sense. good luck! |

Nuke 'em. I use a lap top with a smallish screen and I don't have the patience for that stuff anyway.
