Here’s the deal. I rarely use modulation or delay. I’m basically a Guitar -> OD -> Amp guy. So I have made due with off the shelf digital modulation and delay effects, out on a TB loop, and I have been perfectly happy for what little I use them.

So last weekend was one of those rare occasions where I decided to go wanky with some modulation, and was playing with my Digitech EX-7 and EHX Stereo Electric Mistress. I began to feel that the EX-7 was lacking for the 2 things I use it for – Wah and Univibe. The switch on the thing is stiff as hell too. I basically have to stand on the treadle to click it on.

There are a lot of cool sounds in the SEM. I even found one that actually sounded just as close, or closer, to Univibe than the EX-7.

Anyway I find myself looking at Wahs and Univibe clones, even though I only use those a few times a year. What do you think… OCD? Too much GAS? Eek

P.S. Which Wah and Univibe Clone should I buy? Razz Big Grin Nothing too pricey, but true bypass and analog.

Probably. LOL

But, maybe a great Wah would be so much more responsive, that you'd be inspired to be more creative. So, you'd use it more. Sometimes I find that a quality piece of gear, will make me play differently.

I totally feel you on this one. I kicked my wah off the board a while back because I just never used it live. I have only wanted mod stuff a handful of times.

Given that, I still find myself eyeing Teese and Pedalworx wahs and all the great mod pedals like I really need one.

As bad as I want them, and I keep justifying it by saying that I would use them a lot if I had them, I know that really they wouldn't get used that much. I can't say the same is true for you. As cool as they are, I haven't been able to justify the expense for myself.

IMHO the wah in the EX 7 is near useless. Get a Pedalworx JackButler got his ass kicked wah and don't look back. A Sweetsound Mojo vibe would be a big upgrade too.

If you have 1600 posts on this board, you're in deep enough to get a boutique wah and vibe. Analog modulation effects have a warmth/greasiness/Black Sabbathness that's just as addictive as it is with dirt pedals.

Teese is awesome for wahs. Sweetsound Mojovibe is awesome. There is a lot of hype for the Foxrox Aquavibe for tweakability, but I never felt like a needed to tweak a vibe that much. Just having a vibe with a real pulsing light bulb in it has been enough for me.

The Synth swell is cool. The Whammy pretty much sucks.

I've been more than happy with my Teese Pic Wah for years now, I think it would be hard to go wrong with any of Geoffrey's wahs; I'd love to try a PedalworX wah too though...

I'm currently shopping for a Univibe as well. Is Bob still taking orders? It no longer says so on his website. Has anyone heard any updates on Bob's condition?

You have a great Carvin axe, you seem to like good tones so.. what are you doing using a Digitech?? Don´t use it unless you dig it of course.

You deserve boutique modulation-best-tones.

If I were you I would go to the Cementery and dig a deep grave and say goodbye to the following brands: Digitech R.I.P.--
Boss -(only save the Tu12Tuner if you have it)

GO and search for Phasers, REd Witch CHorus, and MojoVIbe.

You're speaking my language here - cost/benefit. Blow $500 on pedals I step on 3 times a year? Very poor ratio there.

However, I do think a change is in order. A relatively inexpensive change. One that would give me dedicated wah and vibe effects. Here's what I'm thinking at this point:

- An Auto-Wah / Envelope Filter, and a

- Voodoo Labs Micro Vibe.

The auto wah is good because it's small, I like my wah really quacky, and since I can't walk and chew gum at the same time it keeps me from having to worry about being expressive with a foot. I'm still up in the air on which one but leaning towards a Boss AW3.

The VL is TB, Small, inexpensive, and its the real deal with photocells and a lightbulb.

Net what I sell the EX-7 for and the change won't cost much...
