What pedal would you all recommend for a good "Plexi-JCM800-Marshall" in a box type of tone?

Hey Lefty; First things first, JCM 800's are NOT plexi Marshall's. Plexi Marshalls were from the mid to late 60's and are so named because the controll plate (where the knobs are) is made of plexiglass, not metal like a JCM 800.
Secondly, nothing on the planet sounds like a Cranked Marshall so forget about it.

Although it's not a pedal, the Marshall JMP-1 is just incredible, but like MrHanky said, it won't sound as good as a cranked Marshall.

I remember reading reviews of the Ibanez Super Metal SM9 and it said that it sounded "similar" to a marshall jcm-800 never tried one personnally and I'm still searching for one cheap as these are getting hard to find at reasonable prices. I agree that nothing in a pedal can be exactly like a marshall but this one is supposed to be that type of sound... anyone can confirm on this???

How could I forget????? Tonebone Hot British. I hear that's a great sounding pedal, and if I remember correctly, users compare the sound to a Marshall. I am expecting the Tonebone Classic Distortion. It should arrive in one or two weeks.

forget about it......If preamp tube distortion can't even really model power tube distortion, then there is no way in hell a pedal is going to. It would be nice and cheaper, though....

over here in the uk marshall does a range of pedals that magazines have said are a poor mans stack in a box, the two you might be interested in are the jackhammer(apparently the most extreme distortion matshall have ever done) and the guvnor (more of a classic distortion) whist these wont make your clean channed sound marshally you might want to go to your local store and try one (just dont try it out on a marshall amp or its bound so sound like one hehe ) try it on your amp and guitar if at all possible, theres is a marshall preamp schematic avaiable which you could build if you have some electronice knowledge which is actaully taken from a marshall design, this would make your clean signal sound marhsall like, this is designed for plugging into a pa system beacause plugging into a amp will change its sound, if you want more details, ill post the url of the schematic as soon as i find it! and the ppl are right this will never sound like a fully cranked tube amp! (an sorry for the long post)

i wouldnt say you can get a marshall plexi sound and jcm-800 in one pedal but in seperate pedals.
the jcm-800 sound would be a marshall jachammer
the plexi sound would be the lovetone brown source .,

I would recommend buying either a Plexi or a JCM 800...

The ibanez SM-9 sounds to me almost exactly like a Plexi/Plexi head. I compared them and found the pedal almost nails it. I found one for $99 in mint shape which was a deal. I have been seeing them pop in and out for a while now. Lately ebay has been doing them from $150-$225. Ridiculous, I have my eye on one on ebay right now. Its only at $30, if I can get it for under $150 its mine. You should try a SM-9, if you don't like it you can always resell it as you won't lose any money in the pedal.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this but I've got a Vintage Rat ($50) that really rocks through my cranked Super Reverb. I even remember a Guitar Player review of the RAT that said "tight rockin' raw tones that are Marshally and bad to the bone". My disclaimer: this is not my main sound, but more for fun, and I agree nothing sounds like the real thing cranked!! But for few $$, a decent option

Some good responses here.. Well it all depends on what amp you're using and which "Marshall" sound you want. As another poster said a "Plexi" and JCM800 are nothing at all alike. I've got and had lots of pedals and I"d have to agree with Klasaine that a Menatone Blue Collar with my Fenders does an absolutely great Marshally tone. The old Guv'nor is ok for hi-gain but the lo-gain sounds are too thin to me. Both Tonebones do a hi-gain JCM800. (not a stock JCM800, but the modded extra gain stages like Soldano) I had my JCM800 modded by Bruce Egnater and the Tonebone Hot-British is a very similar sound.

I'm enjoying my Menatone "King of the Britains" pedal for just that purpose, It sounds great with my ES335 and old Fender combos.
