Well, I've been working as a bus driver for about a year & a half, since my "Lost My Job" post. Yesterday I received two awards for safe driving; one for the quarter & one for the year. The yearly award was signed by the CEO & included a pin to wear on my uniform, but the quarterly one involved a check ($100). Half of that went to Buca di Beppo, in celebration. Man, that place really sets quite a spread. Fluffy & I are pretty strong eaters but we still walked out with 3 to go containers. I got to eat pasta for breakfast today. Big Grin

A Pin ?

They gave you a pin ?

I've worked for my company for 14 years and they never gave me a pin ! Frown

I suppose the money went to the 5 CEOs who earned $70 million a piece (including their benefits package).

What kind of CEOs are running your company anyway ?

Humans ?
Confused

Thanks guys. I'm actually kind of pleased, so far, with the company I work for. They have this safety first "I'm Responsible" campaign that is actually pretty empowering. If I personally don't feel something is safe, I have veto power. We're trying to become a better system all the time.

Joe, as far as riding my bus, I don't really have a set route. I'm what they call extra board, which means that I do whatever needs to be done. I may drive a fresh bus out to meet a driver & drive the one with a problem back to the garage, or I may have to run someone else's route. I may get paid to read a book or watch Bonanza, or I may wind up driving an 11 1/2 hour shift. It's all in the cards. Also, my brother, Tim, just completed his training & starts his route Monday morning, so you could get a ride on a Shepherd boy bus.

You know, we have some pretty interesting guys driving buses here. One of my buddies had a Master's in psychology. There's a guy here who has worked as an attorney & does some consulting with a think tank. Another guy used to play bass with Albert King & offered to introduce me to Billy Gibbons some time. I guess it's kind of like the old TV show "Taxi" in certain ways.

Lefty, what sort of bus driving do you do? You said that you don't wear a uniform. Do you do tours or what? I'm in a city transit situation here. I've never done any other truck or bus driving before, but tour work might be kind of cool. My employer is ATC, & I guess they decided to use the bonus incentive as a way to motivate people.

Hey Dave, I work for a school district. I just finished up my summer route and have a week or so off before school starts up again. I drive elementary, middle school and high school. People think I'm nuts but I have good kids, and I treat them like kids and don't expect them to be anything different. I don't know if I could do the transit thing. But hey, it's a job and I don't plan to do it forever. It's the easiest job I've ever had. Especially having nights, weekends and holidays off Big Grin

Actually that sounds kind of fun. Kids aren't as stupid as adults, if you know what I mean.
