I don't think you can go wrong with either, but gold plating shouldn't be a selling point. It may be OK with home stereo RCA interconnects which aren't plugged/unplugged constantly, but with an instrument cable, it wears off real quick.
I've had 3 Planet Waves cables. They all sounded OK although the shielding broke down after a few months and they started making that annoying rustling sound whenever I moved them. No such dramas with my Pete Cornish Heavy Duty cables.
2 Kings 2:23-24 NKJV: And as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths."

The price for their 20 footer isn't *that* bad - $115 is around 3x the price of a similar Planet Waves (Klotz is around $80-90), a 20ft Cornish runs around $100.
I'd have to recommend the George L's cables. IMHO they sound best. You can cut them short, just long enough to go from one pedal to the next, which can considerably cut down total length if you're using more than a few pedals.

Just got the Klotz LaGrange 20 footer I picked up on eBay - extremely well made chord, good to have, and it sounds strong and very clear, very good - but - there isn't a real Huge difference in sound between it and the Monster cable guitar chord I've been using for a while. Now, when I originally switched to the Monster cable from ordinary chords, there was a huge difference, so if I had been using an "ordinary" chord, I think the move to the Klotz would have been more dramatic.... but I'm a bit surprised that there isn't more of a difference. This is in my home, so there may be more of a dif. when on stage.
