It's been long overdue, but a few kind souls have posted some Ray Flacke clips on youtube. This guy might be my fave of country pickers. Unique to say the least. Cool

Thanks so much for posting Beck! I have the Homespun instructional video but I hadn't seen the old Skaggs footage before. Ricky had such a great band back then...

Ray is very unique among the Tele country pickers, he has a very singular style and I can't say that he really sounds like anyone else. His phrasing is phenomenal. Cool stuff!

I'm digging his solo on Highway 40 Blues:

In the mid 80's I met a guitar player who moved to L.A. from either Nashville or the mid west(?). He played with David Allen Coe for a while and was working out here in really good - very 80's style - cover band. His name was Gordy Deems (really great player) and told me to check out Ray Flacke.
The only thing "I" could find at the time (I didn't know shit about C&W past Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Hee Haw) was a 'Star Licks' Ray Flacke instructional video.

Fucking blew my mind!!!
Stuff on that vid was the first real "modern" country that I learned and still pull some of it out today. The guy's amazing for sure.

Interesting how in country as well as blues, the British guys have made us sort of re-evaluate how we do it over here(?) Albert Lee and Ray Flacke
