Yes it's true. I know it's been said quite a bit around here, but I can honestly say I am VERY happy with my tone. The Menatone pedals have been the "missing link" in my rig. I've got nice guitars, nice pedals, and nice amps. Even have a great band to use it all with. Now it's time to focus on the playing.
Now, if I was rich... yeah I'd be buying things just to have them. There are still a few things I'd like to try, just for experimenting. I'd like to try some of the RS tone kits, and see what the higher quality parts are all about. And I might mess with signal and speaker cables a bit. For some reason, I feel as if not worrying about the gear, has made me a better player. Now when I rehearse, I'm worried about the playing, and not about the sound... because now it sounds good all the time, and I just don't have to dick with it any more. I like the feeling that MY sound is there, and I don't have to fight to get it. Just a few months ago... I would be searching all over the net, and would start GASing for things. And I would get OBSESSIVE about it. In the last year or two, I've ammased SO much frickng gear, and most of it NEVER got used. I looked at all the crap I had, and decided to sell the stuff that NEVER got used. It's amazing how much money I had invested in gear that wasn't being used, and most likely never going to be used. I hear what you're saying. There's been so many times I'd go practice and end up spending so much time just tweaking knobs. I'm pretty satisfied with what I'm getting now, so, like you, I can spend more time playing with less tweaking. But, Carl's got me Gassing for a Gypsy Fuzz and I have a new Menatone coming this week and I still want an EGDM. So, the adventure continues except I have more of a sense of where I'm going.

I've been wanting to try the new Dirty Blonde for a long time. I currently run four Menatones on my board and really don't know where that one will fit in. But, I just have a feeling it's going to be great. |

Cool,
Let us know how the new DB is. I had an early one, and it just didn't quite work for me. I'd like to try the new one. Heck, I'm a sucker for ANYTHING Menatone. They are the best pedals I've played... and I've played LOTS of pedals. H |

The old one seemed to get some criticism about its bass. I tried out one of the old ones in a store but couldn't really tell how it was--it's hard to really crank a pedal the way I like sitting in a music store. All the Menatones I've tried have been great dynamic, amp-like pedals, although not every one has been right for me. I'm jazzed about the Dirty Blonde. I used to love playing through a blonde Showman or a brown Super. Now we just have to get you to try the new WMB. I know the old one wasn't a perfect match for you, but I have hopes, as the old one is still my fave. And to me, it isn't any more bright than my TBIAC or RS. Maybe yours had a problem.

Yeah I honestly think there was something wrong with it. It was WAY beyond bright. I like a warm tone, but this thing was nasty. If they aren't supposed to be any brighter than the RS.... count me in!! It was one that I really wanted to like, and was dissapointed. I checked out the clips on the Chapin site, and man it sounds good! Maybe if my local dealer ever got any stock (maybe this year.. PLEASE??) I could try it out. They have been out of pretty much all Menatone stuff since they became a dealer 6 months ago. I think they are starting to get a little pissed. People like me come in, and all they have is 2 Menatone pedals. Doesn't look like much of a dealer when that's all you have. H |

Hmmmm... That might be a good idea Blues. I sent Willie B about 4 of my Menatones and he's been foaming at the mouth ever since he got them last week.

Hey Brian.... Trust me... there are more than 2 people that like your stuff!!!! You've got quite a buzz going around the Minneapolis area. I bet you sell through your next back up here REAL quick! So far everyone who's tried any of my Menatone pedals has been VERY impressed. Keep up the good work. H |

Definately more than 2 fans! I have two mena's and I be wanting at least 3 more. A menatone tourbox would be a great idea, as it will help me decide which of the three I want to get first....
If time = money, how come I feel like I need more of both? Lets get down to brass tacks, how much for the ape? |

I got a chance to play a couple of Menatones once. The only Fender type amp the store had was an BF Deluxe Reverb that had some serious problems. Nothing sounded good into it, not even guitar>cable>amp.

If somebody's going to start a Menatone tourbox, count me in!
On one level, I'm a little like Headshot--I finally got my rig to the point where I consistently finish playing sets thinking, "damn, my rig sounds great." My bandmates regularly comment on how good my guitar sounds lately, and players fom the audience are always coming up to check out my gear. But there's always that little demon in my head that's thinking, "what would it sound like if I upgraded my amps from Kingsnakes to Dr. Z's, Carrs, Tone Kings, Fuchses or Fargens? What if I replaced a couple of these overdrives with a Fish Factory, Howie or Kar Krash?" And so the GAS continues, but without the urgency it had when I was still vaguely dissatisfied with my tone. It's like the formation of any society: a period of misery and/or starvation (my Korg multi-fx pedal into a SS amp days) is followed by a costly revolution and a slow period of societal reorganization. Then, once a certain comfort level is achieved, decadence begins to set in, as the citizens look around for ways to fill their leisure time. Oh my God--I'm becoming the Caligula of guitarists! Anyway, stick me on the list for any Menatone Tourbox; I'm always up for a new tone-orgy. ------------------------------ 2 Kings 2:23-24 NKJV: And as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the LORD. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths." |
