Hey Everyone.

You might notice me not being around much for the next few weeks. I'm going to be remodeling my home studio. When I moved into my house 1 1/2 years ago, I just moved my small studio into a room, and didn't really do anything with the actual room.

Since then, I've upgraded from a small Pro Tools M-Box to a new 003 Pro Tools system. I've also added a bunch of other new gear. I decided that I really need to build an actual control room/mix suite to take full advantage of the nice gear. I also have a large room next to the control room that will be the "live" room.

I started the project 2 days ago by gutting the room. I'm going to add pictures hopefully every few days to show my progress. My goal is to be done by mid March. The bulk of the work should be complete by March 1. I'm doing all of the work myself, so this is a big undertaking. It should be really nice when complete!

Excellent! That sounds like a fun project. I can't wait to see the progress.

OK, here's some pictures of what I started with. You can see how crappy the room is. The previous owners didn't do much with the room. It was one of their daughters room. It had been painted purple, pink, and white. Really bad paint jobs too! They painted right over the electrical outlets.

You can see I have my computer and my electrical work bench in this room. George, now you can see where I spend my time when I'm on the phone with you! The work bench is going to be built into a closet, so I can shut the doors and no one will see my mess!

I'll post some pictures of the gutted room tonight.

HA! Keep your G strings off my thread. I look at this at work so keep it clean. (of course you can email me all the g string pics you want!)

Yes there is a midi Keyboard there, and yes I do like heavy guitar. But to be honest, my first instrument was piano. I can't play for crap anymore though. I use the keyboard as a controller for some synth type stuff, and for some drum tracks. It's pretty cool the amount of stuff you can trigger with a midi keyboard.

Hahahaha. Yeah, I kicked that hole in the wall to show off to my son. Yeah I know I'm a moron. Then I realized I hadn't taken before pics and that it's gonna look like I live in a crack house when I post pics. Honestly, I really do live in a decent neighborhood!!!

The only crack I saw in that photo was the top of yo' butt when you fell into the wall
(and put your head thru it).

All jokes aside .... looks great bro, can't wait to hear some tracks come out of your studio.

If all goes well I should be able to start tracking by March 15th!!

DAY 4.

Took out old doorway framing, and reframed door in new location. Installed recessed lights, outlet boxes, and ran all electric lines.

Things are right on schedule. Drywall goes up this weekend!

The house we moved into was messed up by two girls too. Purple sills, green walls. handwritten messages on the molding. We put the baby in there sine he doesn't care. The other three wouldn't have set foot in it. But we gotta get in in "boy" shape soon!

Yeah this room was the crappiest out of all the 4 bedrooms, so that's how I ended up there! There was pink curtains and shelves on the walls, stickers on the doors, ect. I roughed it out long enough, and finally said I'm making a kick ass room for myself! It's been a ton of work, especially since I have a full time day job. I've been coming home from work and going right to work on the room. My wife is real happy with me right now....
