Saw this on Yahoo News this evening. In this case, I doubt that any movie could be as captivating as the real thing.

Tarantino To Direct Hendrix Movie?

04/26/2006 7:00 PM, Yahoo! Music
Ben Gilbert - LAUNCH U.K. & Ireland

Quentin Tarantino will direct a forthcoming biopic about Jimi Hendrix, according to reports.

The infamous filmmaker is said to have agreed to shoot the film, which is thought to have been in production for some months.

Tarantino will collaborate with Leon Hendrix, Jimi's brother, on the movie, and will be given full access to his name, likeness, and archive interview footage for the project.

Shooting is expected to begin later this year, with the movie scheduled to take in numerous cities that played host to the life of Hendrix, including Seattle, New York, Toronto, and London.

What do you mean? That's precisely what they're doing right now. Big Grin The only problem, however, too many want to sit in and the number is growing.

Looking forward to that, thanks. I wonder if it will be "controversial" in any way, he tends to push the envelope, how appropriate given the subject....

BTW, Kill Bill is pretty cool too! I've gotta admit, the eyeball snatching in Pt. II made me flinch. I liked Pt. 1 better though

I recently read that Andre 3000 (one half of Outkast) is/was supposed to play Jimi. For those that don't know, Andre 3000 is the guy that did that megahit from about three years ago where the chorus was "Hey Yah."

Still, I'd rather watch the Woodstock DVD, Monterey, the 1973 documentary, etc. Why watch an actor playing Jimi when you can watch the real thing?

About a month ago some DJ here in town stated that Lenny Kravitz bought the rights for a Hendrix movie and that the woould play the role. I can't say that I am excited about it no matter who plays the man.

For years Stone was working on the same projeect.
There was a movie that was made not long ago, it airs on Sat and Cable all the time, the cat who plays Jimi actually does a decent job, but the script is pathetic.

I am not sure what this is going to be about, but with the "family" involved I am sure it will be anything but what "we" want to see and more along the lines of what the general public will buy.
If I were Q, I would really try and find a no name for this lead role!

Yeah...I don't know how to feel about this news. I love Tarantino's work, but I'm not sure anyone can ever capture just what Jimi was all about.

Did you guys see that Hendrix movie that came out a few years back??
The actor that played him did on okay job. It was a bit of a caraciture, and his guitar "miming" left much to be desired, but he at least looked somewhat like Jimi.

Yeah I saw it, the guy who played him looked familiar and I thought did a pretty good job with the mannerisms even though the movie as a whole reeked.

Did Hendrix have a particularly interesting life? To me his image and music are greater than the man. Whereas, with someone like Johnny Cash, the man and the Legend can't be separated. Just my thoughts

Actually he did, his mom was a singer I think, maybe his dad was musical too, mom died young, he was shuffled around the family, joined the paratroopers and did some jumps, played as a sideman on the chitlin circuit with Little Richard, King Curtis, Isley Bros, etc. Wound up in NYC broke and started making a name for himself in the Greenwich Village clubs. Got noticed by the Stones, etc then Chas Chandler from the Animals took him to London, formed the Experience and recorded the first record. Monterrey Pop Festival was his triumphant return to the US as a rising star.....
