For maximum chill, I always go back to the original "Psycho", "The Exorcist", "The Omen", & "Alien". "The Ring" & "The Blair Witch Project" made me feel uneasy as well. Looking forward to watching "The Grudge". "The Gift" is a pretty cool film, & there's one particular scene that should not be missed by fans of Katie Holmes.

I thought Gary Oldman was excellent in "Bram Stoker's Dracula", even if the film did contain Keanu Reeves.

For campy gore & weirdness, I like Brian Yuzna's "Re-animator" & David Cronenberg's "Videodrome", & of course "Scanners" - I loved it when the dude's head blew up. "American Werewolf in London" is a classic, with lots of dark humor.

John Carpenter can be hit or miss, but I liked "The Thing" & "In the Mouth of Madness". David Lynch films are not horror per se, but always give me the creeps. Speaking of non-horror that wigs me out, I'd cite Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" & flicks about real life whack jobs such as "Ed Gein".

"28 Days Later" did nothing at all for me. I'm not much into the Freddie, Jason, & Hellraiser- type stuff. "Night of the Living Dead" & "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" are cult classics, but I never really cared for 'em.

No film has ever chilled me quite like reading Steven King's novel "The Stand".

Corleone, if you like movies about real life whack jobs, then check out Derranged (Ed Gein) and Henry: Protrait of a serial killer (Henry lee Lucas). I thought they were both good, and creepy.

Did you happen to make it by "Utopia?" It's the largest live music club on Bourbon. My old band, Jive train used to do a house gig there. If you happened in two years ago, you likely saw us.

I've seen a recent flick about Ed Gein (fruitcake extrordinaire!), but not the 1974 film "Deranged", or "Henry"... thanks for the tips! "American Psycho" is fairly wacked fiction...

Thought of a few more weirdo flicks - "Devil's Advocate", Hitchc o c k's "The Birds", & I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned "Carrie".

I have to tell a "Carrie" story.

When I was in college, I dated a really sweet, incredibly beautiful, really dumb girl.

We went to see "Carrie" at the theatre the night it opened, so the place was packed.

If you've seen the film, you know that during the opening title sequence we see Sissy Spacek in the shower, and as she's showering she gets her first period. Blood begins to flow down her thigh.

Well, it's a pretty personal thing, and the theatre was crowded with people on dates, so you could kind of feel the embarrassment in the room--it was dead silent.

That is, it was silent until Mary K (my sweet, beautiful, stupid girlfriend) said, quite loudly, "what? are we supposed to believe she cut herself on the soap?"

while the whole theatre laughed, I wanted to stand up and say, "that's right. I'm with her. you got a problem with that?"
