I have had the london fuzz and liked it, it was not my favorite as I am not trying to be a clone of jimi.

I love the Foxxey Fuzz, its very sweet, but its more like a big muff. I want a beatles type of fuzz to add to my foxxey.

Would this be a london fuzz or a brit bender?

The Foxey Fuzz sounds like a Big Muff because it is a Rams head Big Muff clone. I believe that MJM has 2 versions of the Brit Bender (w/c is a Tonebender clone) I personally haven't tried them yet though Frown

troy, please give me a serious rundown. I am excited to get one of these babies. The foxey makes me drool, I now need the other side.

Compare and contrast the london and brit bender.

I appreciate it.

by the way, silicone or germanium for you sir?

I prefer Germanium tone more than Silicon. I like the warmer side of things. The Brit-Bender IS much brighter than the London Fuzz(as it should be), edgier, not as round, not as FAT, real nice and it has INCREDIBLE sustain. Also, it would be warmer than a Silicon in comparison. MJM does make a Silicon version of the London Fuzz as well (FYI).

I really like it from my initial impression. It is nice to have a different flavor of fuzz tone. I will need more time to play with it. I only had an hour of testing before it got too late. I'm real impressed though!

I received the 2-knob version as opposed to the 3-knob version (tone control) which is more like the Soul-Bender. The 2-knob version is the original design I guess.

I have to experiment to where exactly I am gonna put it in my chain. I have a lot of tempermental effects and they have to be positioned perfectly. Hope this helps for now.

Gee, with all of those overdrive & fuzz pedals do you have any special switching devices to help you use them without stumbling all over the place trying to stomp on all of those switches? Wink

Hi SPDave!

Did anyone know that SPDave has started to make pedals?

Dave, made me a true-bypass custom effects dual loop switcher. It allows me to seperate my OD's and my fuzz(s) with a click of a button. Instead of turning one on/off (tap dancing) it allows me to have quick switching. It also has a tuner out jack.

It is very useful and he took ALOT of time to answer my questions and take care of my needs. It is nicely built with a lot of care. Dave is a great guy and if you would be interested in something like this, he is the man. Hey, he is one of us!!!!
Great job Dave and thanks again!!!

I tried the Brit-Bender once again tonight. This time I had my amp CRANKED and whoa, this fuzz is KILLER!!!! OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! SUSTAIN for days and the tone is just wonderful. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The London Fuzz and Brit-Bender are both amazing and they are different from each other. If you like your Soul-Bender, put on your seatbelt baby, this thing smokes all Tonebender clones.

I'm extremely blown away from another MJM product. Michael is the best my friends!!!

Hey Troy. Can you get a Beatles sounding fuzz tone out if it? What kind of fuzz tone will you compare it to? I'm getting one soon myself! Thanks

FF71, I don't think you can get a real Beatles tone out of it unless you play with humbuckers and roll off on the vol. knob to clean it up.

This thing has tones of gain and sustain. It would be brighter than your LF too. I think Michael said it best: It sounds like Jimmy Page on the first Led Zep album. I personally can't really say. It is the Fuzz for me because of all the charactaristics I've mentioned. I still get a Hendrixy kinda vibe from it, yet it is my own tone. You will LOVE IT!!!

I think the Tone Bender is like a Fuzz Face with an extra gain stage, for added flexibility. Thank you for the plug Troy. Smile

To me a Fuzzface and a Tonebender are totally different fuzz. You can say that Hendrix's fuzz is similar to Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page.

I'm with fuzz71 on this one. in mcBoutique terms: the fuzzface sounds like a '69 and the tonebender sounds like a soulbender. totally different fuzzes.

i just tried out both along with a Blues devil. the Brit is much fizzier sounding with lots of top end fuzz. the London (germanium) is a helluva lots more BEEFIER. i mean this sucker rocks. more a howl vs. the brit's high end scream. The London is just waaaaay fatter sounding than the brit which sounds hollow to me. i much preferred the london.

Yes, they are different sounding fuzzes. But that doesn't take away from the fact that a Tonebender IS basically a fuzzface with another gain stage. Go to geofex.com and read "technology of the fuzzface". Very revealing on what makes germanium fuzzes sound the way they do.

What I meant was that the Tone Bender circuit is basically like a Fuzz Face type of circuit with an extra transistor. I'm talking in terms of how they're put together, rather than the tone.

Finally got my Brit-Bender, I got the three knob version and it sounds fantastic! Very early Jeff Beck, Mick Ronson and Jimmy Page. I'm still in the mode of testing the pedal, and I'll let you guys in a more elaborate review later, but it really sounds awesome!

Been spending a bit more time with the Brit-Bender lately and found myself using it more for now than my London Fuzz.

They have a bit of similarity but at the same time have a totally different vibe.

You can dial a very convincing London Fuzz tone with the "Tone" knob around 9-11:00 and with "Fuzz" on full.

You can also dial some really cool nasally tones with it a'la Mick Ronson. And with using your neck pickup and volume control, a very good Clapton's "Cream" sound. It has a really cool sustain, but I heard that the 2 knob vrsion sustains more. But believe me, it has enough sustain for anyone can handle.

Between the London and the Brit bender it is really a tough choice, if you can only afford one.

One thing's for sure. A lot of the fuzz pedals that I'm not using right now is going to Ebay or the classified ads.

Is anyone able to compare the Brit Bender with a Fulltone '69 pedal?
