I'm considering changing out the pickups in my LP Deluxe. Since soapbar P-90's are a direct fit, I'm considering trying them out. Everyone seems to talk about Lollars when it comes to P-90's. Anyone here use them? Are you using the standard, or high or low winds?

Also, what pots do you use with P-90's? 500 or 250 k?

Thanks!

H

Dan, a friend of mine has just had a custom Tele-style guitar made for him with Lollar P-90s and they sound absolutely great.

Not sure about the winds and pots but the pups themselves sound great in that chambered-body, tele-style guitar. I was so impressed that I myself am considering having a guitar made with Lollar P-90s.

I can only think they will sound great in a great guitar like an LP Deluxe.

I have a Lollar guitar - his Classic SG type - and as you'd expect it came with Lollar P90s. I went through three different sets as I wasn't quite happy with them (standard set, hot bridge with -5% neck and 50s set) and liked the 50s best followed by the -5% neck and standard bridge paired together. However, they were a little too hi-fi for my ears in that guitar (especially the bridge position which had a bit too much presence/high frequencies).

I just put in a set of Wolfetone P90s "mean" neck and meaner bridge around 8k/9k respectively and they seem much more the thing. They clean up even better and whilst thick still have clarity. I love the guitar Jason made, but I think these PUs are better in it for my amps/styles.

Chris

PS I'd got with 500k pots first off. If the bridge is too jangly/bright then go lower in that position only.

I had a pair in an Epi Casino that I upgraded, and I liked them for some things but not for others. I would agree with Chrissy that they tent toward the more "hi-fi" side with lots of clarity and detail. I haven't done a 1 to 1 comparison in that guitar (which I've since sold) but generally speaking I prefer the Fralin P-90s I've owned due to the fact that they have a more traditional "skronk" in the bridge position. The Lollars are great for glassy, crystal clear stuff and actually sound really great. I just didn't want or need the extended high end. Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the info guys. I just ordered a set. Standard for the bridge, and -5% for the neck. I'll you know what I think when they get here!

I've a 50s-wind Lollar P-90 in my Melody Maker RI (the cheap single PUP one). It sounds so nice. So as for the pots, whatever came with the guitar.

My tech installed the P-90: routed out the PUP area and voilà, black soapbar goodness. I love its sound.

My Lollar P-90's arrived yesterday. I was able to remove the old mini humbuckers and install the P-90slast night. I didn't get to finish the wiring, but I will tonight. I'll let you guys know what I think.

I'm psyched to hear your report- I think i'd like to put them in my Schecter Tempest Gold Top. The SDs that are in it are fine, but I'm not sure if their the "ones".

I have a set in my Heritage H-137 Second Edition and love 'em. Clean, crunch or scream they deliver the goods.

Whoo Hooo!! Just got done jammin on the Les Paul Dlx. The P-90's sound great. I might need to mess with the high adjustments a little. They sound great in all positions, but I was really impressed with the middle position for a clean sound. It might be the best clean I've heard in a long time. Big yet clear.

Maybe I need to try some Lollar buckers in my LP Standard. hmmmmmm....

The Melody Maker RI rocks like crazy with this 50's wind. Low output P90 that has a great growl and adds a lot to this (fairly) inexpensive guitar.
