hey, I am moving toward using two amps in studio/stage and am wondering what your experience is aside from the obvious of moving more gear around. I have a Carr Imperial that I absolutely love, but it is still a 6L6 and I am really after an EL34 distorted tone as a compliment. Has anyone here given that a shot?

I've bi-amped, but not in the way you are probably thinking. I've got a Carvin 12 string (it looks lkinda like a semi hollow tele) that has dual humbuckers, a piezo pickup, and two outputs. I run the 'buckers to my AC15 and the piezo out to an Ashdown Acoustic Radiator. There is a blend knob on the guitar to mix the two.

The Ashdown has two inputs and occasionally I will run both outputs from the guitar to it, the piezo going straight acoustic and the electric side running through an amp modeler first (a Yamaha DG Stomp) but I still prefer the two amp setup.

Yup, I used to favor a Super Reverb, but have gone to a Deluxe reverb and a Vox V-15 and they compliment each other very well........and I can get some stereo 'roll' out of my chorus vibe and stereo delays....

Ohm,Ohm on the range...(8~}

I would love to, and I know my Super Rev. and my JMP Marshall would sound heavenly together, but I'm simply too lazy to bring 2 amps.

2 or 3 amps together is the way to go. the deluxe
& ac-15(or copies)are a match made in heaven.i always use 2 small amps,or medium size, depending
on the size of the place. and, if one amp dies, you can still finish the gig!2 small amps are easier to carry than 1 big mutha.and sound better.
try different tubes & speakers in each,and the tone will be startling.

You know, its funny... I didn't even consider using one as a backup for the other. I suppose if I had it worked out in advance (what everything would need to be set to) it would take about 2 minutes to re-plug a few wires and tweek some dials if one of the amps failed.

I would attenuate the EL34 amp any way in smaller places so it would mean I just wouldn't get AS clean a tone as I do out of a 6L6, but at least I wouldn't be standing there like an idiot. Ok, I would still be an idiot, just not a MUTE idiot Big Grin

Some suggestions please for soemone who is new to bi-amping. I did it for a while until I started to get a sound that sounded like a short in the cord. I quickly eliminated that problem and figured that it must be something wrong with hooking up the two amps together. Could this be what they call a ground loop? Sorry for the rookie sounding question here guys!

Hi,

I've been bi-amping almost since I've been playing. Sometimes I go back to just one amp, but them I always feel my tone is missing something. I bi-amp in two ways. I sometimes run two amps together. Other times I'll switch between two amps, one set for clean, the other for dirty. I've been pretty happy with these setups.

I am using one amp now but I used to lug around 2 AC 15's RI. One i set hot and bumped it up 2 notches with a Germ and the other I set clean and ran all my time based effects through it with a Marshall Drivemaster to dirty it up if I needed that. I a/b'd the two and was able to select the effects I wanted to kick in in a particular song before the song and kick the effects in with the A/B. It was a very user friendly set up and killer tonewise. I play in a band now that mics all the amps so 2 amps may be a little tricky but I loved that set up when I was using it.
